New Evo Warrantly Handling Procedure

Been checking occasionally on Edmund's modifications on their Evo X. They posted this letter about a new Mitsubishi policy for warranty claims on the Evo after looking into their transfer case leak - image quality is not very good since it was faxed, but looks like dealers will be looking even more closely for mods....

Anybody run into this yet?

Thanks Edmunds for ****ing us over. As if it weren't bad enough going to the dealership. Why would you take it into the dealership for service knowing how well modified the car is and how much you beat on it? The car was on "loan" from Mitsubishi as well. Dumb...

I don't read it this way at all. They got the internal memo from the dealership so now everyone knows their policy. It's not like they(Mitsubishi) don't know people mod the cars, and the lent them this car with the intention of it being a project car. The real news seems to be a reference to a reflash check prior to any significant warranty work - not just hardware mods. That's new right ?

Try reading the disclaimer before you can even buy a R-35. There 2010 version is real harsh. I would be afraid to wash it.

What is a reflash check? Will they be able to see if a Cobb AP was used if you flash back to stock before bringing it in?

Maybe but why take it to the dealership? Where is the value added? They ended up at RRE in the end. They didn't do us a favor posting that memo. There are quite a few industry folks here on this very forum. It would have ended up in our hands at some point anyway. I feel like this warranty bulletin will reverberate through the community and make dealership visits even worse.

Well, obviously those guys were hard on the test car as it caused some kind of wear in the diff bearings or whatever to fist a seal. Mine's not really modified at all and I don't launch or drag race the car on a regular basis, but not being able to rebuild a transfer or center diff scares the hell out of me.

Stuff breaks when you beat on cars and if you can't afford to fix it then don't mod it. Not that tough to figure out...

Honestly, there isn't anything wrong with that bulletin. In fact, it's pretty much standard operating procedure for warranty work.

No. Requiring photographic proof that the engine bay is unmodded for a $500 repair is NOT standard procedure.

Glad I bought a Nissan extended warranty with my evo and don't have to go through Mitsu!
