SUPER BAD mileage?

It happened 2 times before, and it happened again today.

I filled up my gas tank two days ago(45liters),today we drove less than 200km for ski, and on the way back, my car died on Highway, lucky my friend was behind me, and he drove me to a gas station for some gas.
The problem is, my mileage meter shows I still have 1/4 gas left, and it says it can run 110km even after my car died.

It happened 3 times so far, started from June 2009, I can't even make 400km sometimes with a full tank, and it's hard to predict when to fill the gas because of the STUPID meter!!
Could anyone tell me what's wrong with it? Why the meter doesn't show accurately?, and I can't make 400km with a full tank of gas?

Mods I have : Greddy SE exhaust. HKS Gen 3 BOV.(It happened 2 times before I put the mods on my car.)

Sounds like the little plunger thing in the gas tank might be bent or malfunctioning. There is a plastic floaty in the gas tank to show the level of the gas in the tank. Looks like the little floaty in the top of the toilet tank. Have you replaced your fuel pump? I wouldn't think that would get bent on it's own. Seems like there is more to it though since you are also getting bad gas mileage. I would contribute that to a bad tank of gas or spirited driving, but something else might be up.

Man, you remind me, I really did replace my fuel pump last winter. Because there was some noise coming out of the gas tank, so I sent my car to the dealer, They replaced a fuel pump, it worked for a few weeks, and the noise came back again. I ignored it because I thought it was not a big deal.

If that's the reason, there are two things I can approve now:
1: I need to bring the car to the dealer again.
2: Windsor Mitsubishi in Canada SUCKs and **** THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless I think that even with pretty aggressive driving he should be able to get over 200km to a tank of fuel.

About the level meter, maybe you have a problem with the floating in the tank that sometimes does not float till the bottom.
In any case, mine too is not so accurate: just yesterday night, it was showing that tank was completely empty, instead I could fill with only 44 liters.

About gas milegae instead, for me it's impossible hoping to run 400 km with a full tank... usually I can drive just 250 km with a full tank, driving sometimes hard and sometimes "normally".
Even driving conservative, the average consumption is always less than 8 km/l... (stock X with just a CBE, but it was the same when 100% stock).

The Evo X has terrible gas mileage. I only have 500 miles put on it and I already found that I average 14mpg, when the car was supposed to get between 16-22 mpg. (and I have been staying off boost for the break in period)

Lets not forget 2 important things.. 1) Winter gas = crap 2) Idling the car to warm it up sucks gas like crazy, and it has been cold! Still, it's possible the sensor in the tank is frozen, or something is f'd up with the tank, but yeah 200kms is a little short. Could also be that you are running pretty damn rich and wasting a lot of fuel... I've been lucky to get 300 to a tank, but I don't have any mods except a tune.

I dun slam the on gas all the time, normally I drive conservatively. my average city is around 16mpg, and highway is around 23mpg. That could give you an idea how conservative my driving is .And that's why I dun understand , with a full tank of 45 liters, I can't make a round trip to a city which is 177km away.

And guys, I think we should focus on the meter, because since day1 , I knew I can't save $ on gas if I buy this car. But at least I need to know when to fill the gas

That simply NOT true. Maybe your X gets terrible mileage but to make a global statement that "The Evo X gets terrible mileage" is incorrect.

I get between 14-28 mpg. On the lower end if Im lead footing it, and on the higher end if Im on the HWY cruising. I typically get around 23mpg at 80mph on the HWY. 28MPG AT 65MPH. Now thats not great but its good for a high peformance car.

Perhaps you are driving in icy conditions which does cause mileage to be worse?

And, I dont think you should be staying off boost during the so called "Break in period".

Ive spoken to at least five differnt service managers from various dealers (including South Coast) and all have stated that there is no break in period. The rings are seated at the factory.

But that is another topic entirely...

I think the OP definitely has a mechanical problem with his fuel system-

Is it happening on a slope? If so, might just be getting fuel starvation from the gas moving away from the pickup in the tank. I parked on a hill with my S2000 with about 2 gallons left in it, and it stalled.

That's obviously the problem--they bent the float arm or it is obstructed.

Most people improve by 2-3 mpg by having the car tuned. Performance isn't the only reason to get tuned...the stock tune sends a lot of raw fuel out the exhaust pipe.

I run E85 (which requires a lot more fuel than pump gas) and I average 15-16 mpg driving conservatively on my regular commute. If you guys are getting that on pump then that tells you something about the stock tune!

Are you one of those people that will shift really early so the engine is at low rpm's- but then push on the gas pedal hard and think because of the low rpm's your getting good gas mileage?

What do you know about what is true and what isnt? All you know is your own experience. I stated my own "true" experience. And no there wasnt any snow or ice when I got the average 14mpg. So from my "own real time experience", the Evo X is a pig on gas. Eat that..

Not exactly. Im one of those people that drive conservatively and dont mash on the gas and weave through traffic like I stole it.

It's impossible for me to get fewer than 150 miles before the first gas warning comes on in my X, and I have a LEAD foot. That's about 240km, so it should be easy to get at least that much. An entire highway tank got me double that, so getting about 500km out of a tank should be possible.
