I think it is just the POS MAF. Kinda like the Fuel Relay. This is going to be a tough poll, cause HKS might have out sold other 10 to 1 we dont know.

I have the HKS put 20,000km on it no probs yet. Sometimes an occasional rough idle but not very often, was going to open it up since i've heard of dust getting by the HKS but i'm not concerned enough yet. All in all pretty happy with it.

+1
I've ran Works drop-in and HKS drop-in filters and didn't have an issue with either one.

I have the HKS filter in my basement. I'm hesitant to install it because it doesn't filter that well.

i changed out my hks filter cause i found a bit of dust in the airway now i hvae the works drop in air filter iam trying to see if dust gets passed it ,but the funny thing is that my wife drives a lancer gts and that car has the oem filter when i checked the airway it had a bit of dust also so maybe a small amount is normal
oh i feel a bit stronger my car with the works filter in comparison with the hks filter the works filter has more openeings and can hear the bov a lot more then with the hks

this poll should include options for the opposite case. i.e., aftermarket filter and no maf problem. that way we know how many of them have gone bad vs how many have not had problems.

i had 3 times fail MAF in the first couple thousand miles . I had a HKS drop in.
Just for curiosity i changed them to the ol' K&N , after 10K miles same filter no problem.
Fact i still have 2 HKS Panel filter laying in my basement
Now i might be incredible unlucky or else. You decide.
A reason i picked K&N , i using them 10 + years , i never had any issues with them. Not even a mysterious oil on MAF story. I guess i oiled them right, after i washed them ...

is it true that it was bad patch of mafs that the evos had?
maybe filters dont have nothing to do with the mafs dying?

Just had mine come on tonight and I've had the HKS Drop-IN for about 7K miles. I got a P0102 and P0137 when mine came on....guess it's off to mitsu to get another part.

I pulled my HKS filter apart and found a little bit of dust and a dead bee.

I've also had a rough idle/rough start sometimes but it is very rare. I will say that when re-inserting the HKS filter, I noticed it doesn't go all the way around the edges of the air box like the OEM one does. I jiggled mine around a little bit until I felt comfortable with the way it sat, maybe this is were the little bit of dust is coming from??

hmmm this makes me want to preemptively change my air filter...I currently have the HKS, any ideas what the best replacement would be? Works or KN?
