Evo X Clutch Question...

So I finally test drove a used 08 Evo X GSR today. I was just wondering if all the Evo Xs on stock clutches engage right before the pedal is fully released..just felt kinda weird to me. I just wanted to know if this is normal? My Evo IX engaged in the middle.

Thanks,
Curtis

Yes, it is normal. I bought mine new with 87 miles and it did it, still does it and probably with do it for ever. Clutches like to go quick on these cars.......especially if you lauch them.....since you bought yours used, i would save some money until it goes. Who knows how the previous owner treater her. I also took out the pill restrictor in the slave cilynder to see if it changes the engament and it still high *** hell. Enjoy you car.

Stock clutch is terrible on this car, engagement is always an issue. I cant reverse for more than 20 ft without smelling clutch. Dealer says its normal, needless to say I've been saving for a new clutch!

stock clutch sucks and stock master and slave and everything related to the clutch sucks.

i am running an Exedy Twin HD with an evo 9 metal clutch master, slave and AMS evo 9 brake line, retrofitted to an evo X pedal.

i only have like 900 miles on the setup and no launches...but feels amazing

thats the exact set up id like to have. But probably with an ACT clutch. I cant afford the Exedy. Did the brake line retrofitting cost alot? or is it not really needed?

This is my first Evo and when shifting at high RPMs I notice that there isn't a smooth engagement. When I let off the clutch and give it gas the clutch seems to jerk the car. This only happens when I'm shifting fast at high RPMs. Is there a different way to shift these cars compared to any other manual?

Perfectly normal. My stock GSR starts to slip-catch at about halfway through the clutch stroke, and doesn't fully catch until an inch before the fully-released position.

If you remove the pill inside the slave cylinder it will engage much lower.

Really? I did it too and the night i first did it and i drove the car, the clutch engaged lower (just bellow half way) but once the car and the hydraulic oil got warm the angagement clomplitelly changed. It went back to sky high. What you guys think it could be? I bled it twice to make sure there isnt any air in the line and im pretty sure there isnt. I did use DOT 3. Sorry for highjacking the thread OP.

Jus so yall know I havent bought this car. Jus got carmax to find one so I could test drive it lol. Im prolly gonna buy a brand new 2010 this weekend. They said they could get me it for 33k OTD here in fayetteville NC. For the east coast I think its a pretty good price considering its a WW GSR with SSS. I also had an Exedy twin on my Evo IX and I LOVED it!!! I guess the stock clutches DO suck as much as everyone says.

Thanks for the replies.
