It's actually not ok to remove the plastic piece because it hurts performance. There is a mitsu airflow doc somewhere that shows how the plastic pieces under the car were specifically designed to improve aerodynamics. If the OP wants to hurt performance in the name of convenience for changing the oil, he can go ahead. We are just warning him that he is hurting performance by removing them.

With tuning, there is a proven increase in performance.

Contrary to the poster who removed the underpanels and felt nothing, I removed them for one day because of work being done and my car, and definitely noticed how unstable the car felt at highway speeds. Almost felt like my car would lift when accelerating from 70 - 90 mph. I'm not discounting the other posters experience, just relaying the experience I had.

How often do you change your oil???

Monster sport makes them, but the cost. change to English on the right.

I think these are only needed for rally racing, but if you can... envy.

lol $1000

I wanted to change because I was so frustrated with all those damn clips. I didn't put about 8 back in. It's not even properly aligned because I didn't know I had to tuck two parts under the bumper when I put the bumper back on, but I had other issues so I didn't bother fixing that.

When I go get my tune and some parts installed I'll just ask the tuner to fix it lol.

My dealer wants to charge me 700 to replace these parts. I lol'd. Anyone know where I can get the PN's for the plastic pieces as well as the cheesy plastic Christmas tree style plugs used to install them?

+1, did extensive wind tunnel tests with this under tray. It helps cool and provides aerodynamic details.

+1.

The next minute a guy wants to take off a plastic piece off to make his oil changes faster/convienient and we scold him.

I find that pretty funny, thats' all I'm saying.

Gotcha so why is it ok, for us to remove change/remove the "boost limit protection" in the name of performance but not ok for him to change/remove the plastic piece for performance as well (his performance of changing the oil)

Bottom line is people want to do all kinds of stuff to their cars. It's there car! a person shouldn't crticize modding in any way if they themselves had modded.

I drove around for months without the plastic. Never hurt a thing. Sure if you're aiming for 140+ mph down the straight or off-roading/rallying it' would be a good thing to have. Normal street driving though - it is not needed one bit. I never even saw a decrease in fuel mileage.

I'm done going off-topic and won't comment again b/c I don't want the thread closed. Sorry to go off topic.
I think I can clear this up a little better. It's not two faced to improve something that needs improving and and not alter something that doesn't need improving. The aero dynamics of this car are very good for an off the show room car. There really isn't much need to mess with it.

Yah you would re-tune the car because it's running richer than a pig in a corn field, but you wouldn't want to put 20" steel wheels on a race car either. Some people want guidance in if taking off / altering a part will have any significant draw backs. IMO, taking off the factory undertray on a X is one of them.

There are cooling benefits you are missing, did you actively monitor the heat of your vehicle with and without the tray?

While I agree with you, not everyone is trying to go faster than 80 in their car and may not need it, I think it's important to realize that panel was designed and engineered with reason.

At least the newly designed clips last a lot longer. The ones on the CT9A basically disintegrated.

I did on my car. Specifically because i was constantly modifying/working on it and losing a screw would be a PITA!

No problems here

I just wish that the underpanel was held on completely by the 10mm bolts, because those are so much easier than the stupid plastic clips.
