Remedies for loose body pieces
Remedies for loose body pieces
Hi All,
I have two exterior problems with my X. I've only had my X for about 7 months, and my side skirts are starting to sag. You can now see a skinny gap between the bottom of the door and the top of the skirt.
Additionally, my diffuser is starting to split away from my rear quarter panel body piece, and there is another skinny vertical gap between the diffuser and the rear body piece.
I don't know much about the body and frame of the car, but do these conditions seem like they're just due to loose clips that have fallen off their fixtures, or are they a more serious problem? Can anyone suggest any DIY ways of solving these issues?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the side skirt is clipped in. Maybe push up on it or something? Then stop stepping on your side skirts.
jk.
If you've only had it 7 months I would just take it back to the dealer.

Just ordered these- anybody know how effective/useful these are? Thanks.
^just place it in the areas that are sagging (make sure you clean both surfaces first), and it should hold them together. mind you, i would try to find new clips first, and see if that worked

I had a few clips break off on the passenger side skirt due to people kicking the snow off their shoes or leaning on it a bit as they got in the car. Luckily you can remove that screw and take some of the slack out of the receiver bracket by bending in a vice and then putting it back together. I also used some trim adhesive sandwitched in there and it hasn't sagged or budged since.
Just came back from the Dealership- The good news- this stuff is covered under the warranty.
They're going to be purchasing and installing new skirts and both rear air dams for me. If any of you have similar problems, go to your dealership!

I also believe there is a TSB somewhat relevant to this that involves applying some, uh, glue towards the rear wheels to strengthen a part that was legitimately a poor design and prone to sagging. Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong?
+1 for Mitsu hooking you up!
