Moving from a BMW to an EVO X
From reading your post I would say for you Definitely go with the MR, nicer interior, bilstien suspension handles bumps a lot better then GSR. As I have posted in every BMW thread, just get a 300.00 custom tune and it will out perform the 335/135 up down and all around. Yes its interior is cheaper then the BMW, but for the same lease payment of a 335, you can buy a MR for 8,000 off sticker and own it. Do it, Do it now!!!!!!

My current car has an O2 downpipe and full turbo-back exhaust, upper IC pipe, drop in, and custom tune.
My 135i had only dual cone intakes ($100) and a shelf tune Vishnu Procede, not even a custom tune. The turbos might be small, but it made 20 more whp and 30 more wtq with way less mods. The 135i was also 180 pounds lighter, taller gears, so on the street, it was substantially faster.
Around a racetrack, it flips, the X is just a lot better handling, has differentials, the Evo is just a lot faster.
I've gone from an Evo to a German luxury sports car to an STi!
An MR Touring would be a close "BMW-esque" car. And Mitsu's build quality/back up of their products have gotten much better over the years.

Conversely, intakes and a tune will make a 135i or 335i blow the doors off any modded X in a straight line shy of a turbo upgrade.

On top of that the 135 is just fuggly and cramped, I would pay up 4,000.00 for the 335 if anything.

Did you even read what I wrote?
My Evo X has:
K&N Drop in
O2 downpipe
test pipe
cat back
upper IC pipe
boost pill
Custom tune
$2200 in mods
My 135i had:
dual cone filters
Piggyback
$1140 in mods
The 135i had 20whp more, 30tq more, a much broader power curve all for half the cost and way less mods, running 10psi less boost than the Evo. It also weighs less. I owned two Xs, a 135i and a 335i, and the 135i was far and away the fastest in a staight line.
I'm not hating on the X, I like my car a lot. But it'd get stomped by my old 135i in at speed. This ain't internet racing and speculation, its owner proven results from owning two Xs and two N54 powered BMWs.
Bmw makes a great car z4 not one of my favorite I was going to get a 2006 m3 before I got my evo but once I drove the x I fell in love because it felt so good in every thing I was looking for now the m3 was much nicer inside but I was willing to deal with it

Instead of focusing on aftermarket spend, what about cost of the cars themselves? Shouldn't that be considered in a "bang for the buck" comparison? Certainly depends on which options and whatnot, but base to base I think the Evo is a bit cheaper than a 135i. Maybe the OP doesn't care much about price or modifications though.

I went from a Lexus LS430 to a Range Rover HSE to Evo X.
I've realized, they all rattle. They really do. The Lexus was a great car, I liked the smoothness of it, elegance, cockpit feeling. Like i was in my office, but on the road. The Range Rover was a pile of garbage, you couldn't give me one for free. 7000 dollars in repairs in 4 months. Right after i got rid of it, the tranny went out, too. It really wasn't any better than the Evo is, it rattled, it was hell on gas, but the seats were nice

People who say that the BMW will have a more comforting ride than an EVO have never driven a BMW. My EVO MR is just as compliant and comfortable to drive as my old Sports Package Equipped BMW 330i.
Hopefully you're talking about an E46, because my E90 335i was infinitely better than the MR in driving feel and material quality.

That being said this is my second evo (had an 05 that was very fast!!). The X has grown up some but not too much it is still juvenille in many ways, and raw. Honestly though the Mitsu has a great connected feel and is a canvas that just cannot be beat for the price, some of the bits are borderline exotic for the price (huge two piece Brembos for one). I really believe this car will put a grin on anyone's face. I drive her daily and she is not bad (needs a 7th gear for hwy) although my 08 GTI is more refined and nicer but at 35,799 for an MR I do not believe there are too many competitors that give you a better canvas and four doors
PS I agree about the perfect damping of the Bilstein set up as well, although my swifts go on next week but should not disturb too much, hee hee
