Evo X tuning and purchase noob ??
Hello everyone, I would like to start off by saying that I am a complete noob to the evo world but I am well aware of how great of a car it is. I am basically deciding between and evo X and a used BMW 335i. My goal is to have 400 whp, this is very simple in a 335i and can be achieved with merely a JB3 tune, intake, and downpipe install. Even with 400 whp, it is a fantastic car that functions great as a daily driver and has a very classy interior and tons of luxury features. My question is, how much would I need (mods) in an evo X to achieve the same goal? How much money would need to be spent?, would this still be a good daily driver? and is it possible with these caveats; (stock turbo, pump fuel, no meth or NOS)? Would it be a car that everyone would clearly be able to tell that it is highly modified or can it be done discretely (mild exhaust changes)? With 400 whp, what 1/4 miles could i expect in an evo x?
Sorry about all these questions, but I love the awd system in an evo and I am curious how hard it is to achieve this 400whp goal?

I don't agree with these guys on the Tune / Intake / TBE / Intercooler / piping and making ~400whp. The 360 area is very doable with those mods, but you'll need a bit more to get there. But remember that the handling of the X completely outclasses the 335, you won't need that extra 40whp for them to be comparable. Also keep in mind there is a 400lb weight difference. A 360whp X would smoke a 400whp 335i imo.

Standard bolt-ons with 93 octane is only going to get you to 340ish on a Dynojet. I suppose you're measuring the BMW at the flywheel, though? That's in the neighborhood of 400 flywheel.
400hp to the wheels is easy with a stock-sized bolt-on turbo. I think $5k would be a reasonable budget for quality new parts and professional installation...buy yourself an FP Green and a full slate of bolt-ons from AMS or ETS. Your car will look like $1M and you won't feel at all out of place parking next to your buddy's BMW.
The plus is that if you ever decide to go to 600hp you can just spend another $5k. Can you say that about the BMW? The BMW doesn't have an '11' on the dial.

You cant really compare those 2 cars, either you like one or the other. One is a smooth riding luxury german engineered vehicle, and the other is an all out rough riding, clunky, rattling, street legal race car that will scare the living crap out of you. So first choose which vehicle is right for you, NOT which can achieve 400hp easier.

Take the wing off of the X and there you go, you have a BMW looking car. I think you will have more fun with the Evo. What about cost of maintenance between the two?

he pretty much gave it out when he made comments on the 335i.. i would definitely jump on a 335 if the right one came up to me. they are two different cars and it really is up to you. you want a luxury feel or a fun car.
about maints, 335i's maintenance cost is not really that much different from an evo x...
and bmw offers great warranty.
