Question Where to go next? Modding

I don't know what I should purchase next. A little background, I have a 2008 Evo X MR. Currently I have a Cobb AP running the Perrin stage 1 93 oct map with a Perrin panel filter, which I am very happy with (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...rmal-tune.html). I would like to add some other performance mods totaling no more than $500. They need to be easy to install for a novice with hand tools and be a direct bolt on for easy removal in the event I need to take the car in for a warranty service. Also no know CELs and issues with the products would be great. I am hoping for 10-20 whp out of this, of course more wouldn’t hurt. I do plan on adding more advanced mods later so by no means am I limiting myself to bolt ons. I just want to start out right with a solid base for the future. Logically I have already considered a TBE and the stage 2 map, that will be a mod for later. Wasn't sure where to post this thread so its going in general, move it if needed.

Things I have considered:

Perrin Turbo Inlet Hose
http://www.perrinperformance.com/pro...ory=3&model=26

AMS, Nisei, something comparable UICP

Not sure what else I had in mind. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

Short of a TBE/CBE, I'm not sure what more you could do that'd gain 10-20WHP. UICP would be nice for responsiveness, but it's sort of a wash power wise.

Really? I have been hearing anywhere between 5-10 whp for a uicp.

As far as cheap mods that make power a test pipe is a pretty easy one, very simple to install as well. You can also cut the flapper out of the stock catback (a little more difficult for a novice, but cheap). Not sure if that would be compatible with the cobb/perrin stage 2 or not but it should be getting close. You might throw codes though depending on the test pipe. if you can afford a bit more, I know you can run the stage 2 maps with test pipe and cat back (and boost pill removed) and that would net you the gains you are looking for for sure.

You might be right, guess I'm not sure. I always viewed it more as a responsiveness mod, but looking over some vendor's sites, does look like 5-10.

Well, there ya go Plus, UICPs are cheap.

i just installed the perrin inlet hose and it was pretty much straight forward. the hardest part of the install was the clamp by the turbo. i was basically bear hugging the engine to get to that sucker.

Notice any difference in power or spooling time?

yes. initally, my butt dyno felt a better response from the throttle, but of course with every mod, the feeling wears away as you get used to it. i also have the perrin drop-in with the inlet tube. my car is un-tuned.

I would consider a test pipe, turbo inlet, UICP and some form of aftermarket boost control. These parts can be had for under $500 with plenty to spare if you package wisely. All can be installed with relative ease for any beginner and I'm sure Cobb has a map available for a similar configuration.

for $500? That is no help at all.

Conversion will cost him: Injectors = 500-600, Pumps = 300-600, Plus tune which he uses AP, don't even know if there is a of the shelf map for E-85 or only custom.

So let me do the same thing. LOL

I would recommend to save a lil more and do turbo back or at least test pipe and cat back. check out Ultimate Racing, since they are reasonable. I love my exhaust.

Great sound and performance.

I'm in a similar situation, but I feel the next step by far would be a CBE. My "planned" bolt-on order, not including tunes:

[X] - RA Mud Flaps (saving that expensive paint = more money for mods later!)
[X] - TWM Shifter/Bushings
[X] - AEM Intake
[X] - Boost Gauge/Pillar
[ ] - Wideband
[ ] - OpenPort 2.0 Cable (I still own evoscan from my viii)
[ ] - CBE (buschur cross-flow probably)
[ ] - HFC
[ ] - UICP (maybe w/ LICP)
[ ] - Intercooler
[ ] - SS Brake Lines / New cmc
[ ] - o2/DP
[ ] - Clutch (maybe sooner than later)

Fun DD

I don't know where you're getting your parts but the reason for my post was because that not too far out of his price range.

DWinjectors $335
Walbro 255 with Blaqops E85 kit (expensive for what it is) 250

He runs and AP, so he can run Cobb's base tune for E85 until he get cash for more mods or a custom tune.

FFF's ftl!

Plus nobody in my area that I know of sells the stuff.

My bad. The closest one is 9 miles away, and there is only one within 25 miles.

That would net you the most gain but some may argue that and exhaust and or intake is the next logical step despite being expensive.
