Time to get back in the game

So I know there will be a bias....

It's time to get back in the game. I had an 05 and I missed it from the second I got rid of it. I'm a big fan of the X, but lately have been looking at the BMW 335. For a slightly used one, prices are very close, making it a tough call. My last evo was ~350whp.

Now my situation has changed and it doesn't need to be a daily driver. I know both the X and the 335 will be fairly easy to get to 350whp(especially since I'm not far from AMS), but I'm thinking I'll be able to modify this next car even a little more.

I know the BMW is a little more civilized, but that's not why I love the evo.

Am I crazy to consider both?

the 335 is very nice my friend has one with juicebox tune, intake, and downpipes and it pulls very nice and looks amazing but nothing beats awd imo

There have been a least a half dozen threads of people in the same boat (X vs. 335,) so if you're crazy, you're not alone.

If it's mod-ability you're looking for then the X is your car, especially with AMS not far away. And sure the 335 is the more refined and optioned of the two, but I'd be surprised if it were as much fun to drive as the X.

Does the 335 have xDrive or not?? If it doesn't have xDrive it won't handle nearly as well as the Evo X. And modding a BMW is usually way more expensive than modding an Evo.

Yeah, I've read quite a few posts about evo guys "growing up" and jumping ship. I know the X is even a little more refined than my VIII and my wife hated the noisy rough ride.

To only have both....

xDrive is available, but I've never liked BMW's awd system. I wouldn't try to make a 335 an evo...BMW performance is meant for RWD

Awd doesn't mean good handling the x drive will hinder BMW handling. Go drive both cars and see what you like better nobody can make that choice but you.

I would get the X not because I'm biased but after owning the X for about a year now i can safely say that this car handles like nothing I have ever driven. You feel almost invincible through the corners with this thing. Test drive it and you will understand what i'm talking about.

I've driven both...I've driven everything. There are things to love about both. The BMW has a smooth power band and has a nice ride. The evo is a great starting platform.

And the RX-8 didn't replace the evo, but it was a good deal, and a nice car for the money. I've had it about a year (even though its been in the garage since November), and I'm bored with it. Its a nice driver, but time to move on.

Put a 13b in the rx8 with a complete suspension wheels and a BN kit and your set, that's cooler than either of those cars.

With a good tune no way there are plenty of race cars with rotaries that don't blow up.

If it isn't' a DD as you mentioned OP, pick up a used VIII or IX for even cheaper. They you'll definitely be able to mod it more! IMO the X and 335 are more for the DD crowd.

*edit - not that I have any problems whatsoever DD'ing my IX.
