little harsh for not knowing how I drove my car don't you think? I have driven manual transmissions cars ever since I started driving this is now my 3rd manual transmission car and I had never had any problems with any of them except the evo X. I drove the car the way it should be driven, no hard launches no two steps, no races..just normal driving and accelerating on the highway every once in a while..car is stock besides the cobb ap..for a fact I can say that I am not a beginner when it comes to manual transmission. Its safe to say that the clutch was defective or not very good to start off with. At 6k with normal driving there should be no reason for a clutch to be giving out. I know mitsubishi will consider it wear and tear but Its a fact that if it is the clutch, I can say that my evo had a very faulty clutch. Perhaps you should have asked how I drove my car before your statement.

Sounds like the clutch. Cost me 2k for an aftermarket clutch and new flywheel, installed by dealer. mitsu has a 12 month 12k warrenty on it if you're lucky enough to meet both requirments.
I noticed mine slipping in either 3rd or 4th gear under moderate acceleration. and eventually in all gears. only had 17k miles on it.

I agree that the statement was pretty harsh. I think you should take it to the dealer ASAP and explain the situation. If you are under the 12K warranty, you should bring that up. I have driven my Evo X as it shoudl be driven, I've had a few hard launches but nothing over the top. I have 21k miles on my stock clutch. No issues at all so far. Either way, try taking it to the dealer and explain the situation. Make sure they have nothing on you as far as mods. If they find anything, they will blame it on the mod, even if it has nothing to do with the part that is worn out.

took the car to the dealer today, and so they're going to open it up and look into the clutch, the rep says 50/50 chance mitsubishi will cover it. they say its up to mitsubishi weather they will cover it from photos they take when they get to the clutch. I say screw mitsubishi fix the car or I stop paying for it..lol..I tell the guy less than 6k and the clutch is out? I had 56K on my civic si and it was running fine and I traded that in and now i have a 30K car and 6000 miles later my clutch is out..I should have kept my civic..FML

That makes sense to stop paying for it. It'll only get repo'd and your credit will get destroyed but who needs credit these days?

Sorry to say but I sense driver error. As for the Si, my lawn mower produces more torque. Torque kills clutches a lot faster than horsepower.

The clutch isn't the strongest clutch out there, but it really isn't bad unless you abuse the heck out of it. But, you said you don't launch, so not sure what happened.

Highly doubtful because the clutch is a wear and tear item. Unless they can find that there was something wrong with the clutch.

Is this your first AWD car? Driving manual transmission on a powerful AWD car like the Evo X is very different than a Civic Si. I hate to say it, but it might be your driving style that ate up your clutch.

^ lol, I agree some of the comments above are a little harsh, but sne is right, Torque kills clutches especially if you are trigger happy with the throttle. I've been driving manual cars for close to 20 years, I have a friend who has been driving driving manual cars as long as I have... and I can say that if he was driving my X, the clutch would have been toast by now.

Mine is holding up just fine at 8.5K miles (still feels the same when I got her brand-new). Of course I never launch the car, and I'd like to think I'm good & easy with my clutch & gas pedal.

perhaps it is user error, but I drove my evo-X no more than an evo x should be driven, its my daily driver and not a race car. I don't do hard launches or anything but this is my 1st awd car. I really didn't know I had to baby my evo. but seriously i drove it like a daily driven car should be driven and nothing more, nothing radical. I told the guys to hold on tearing it apart. should I just get aftermarket instead of stock? spend my money somwhere else?

It's not that you have to baby the car. Not at all. It's just that you have to learn the right way to get the car off the line. That's all. You'll get the hang of it. But, like I said, driving a powerful AWD manual transmission isn't like other FWD/RWD cars. Just getting the car rolling can wear out the clutch over several thousand miles if you don't do it right. Once you're in gear and rolling along, it's really no different than any other manual tranny car. It's just getting off the line that takes a different touch than your old Civic Si.
