See if you can get a new (or barely used, >2000 mi) '08. I got my '08 with 250 miles on it for $27,500 before taxes late last year.

i would get a new one just because of the turbo break in procedure and how they treated the car etc etc.

if money isnt too much of an issue then get a new one... lets imagine you have about a 5k difference... thats roughly 100 bucks a month in payments... is an extra 100 bucks worth the peace of mind knowing that your the only owner of the evo and your breaking it in and treating it the way you want to treat it.

thats what i used for my reasoning behind a new X and a used IX... 0% financing doesnt hurt either... hehehe

good luck

bigger market. Here, there was only one for sale. I ended up going to Salt Lake City to get mine

i would say new..

That way you know exactly what you have done to it and not have to wonder what someone else did to it or how they drove it. So you would have an ease of mind.

You just have to be careful. You can't expect us to tell you what to get when we don't know how financially stable you are, if your going to get a loan or pay it upfront. The only thing i can tell you is to be super careful when your choosing a used evo. Sometimes when a person knows that he is going to loose the car he might beat the living hell outta the car just before they take it away. You never know. Ask yourself if its worth having a new car smell over a 10k used Evo valued 8k less. Gl.

+1 for new. You never know how a used performance car was treated.

Thanks for all your inputs, especially the story of, "Another TC-SST likely shot." After reading this makes me want to buy a new one. I plan on checking out two used cars this weekend, just to test drive them.

You can probably get a used one if the owner is pretty close friend to you other than that it's pretty hard to trust people nowadays. they beat and abuse them. I loved my Evo IX and i drive it like an old lady driver.LMAO.

It all depend of the price/miles/maintenances. You can get a very good price on used evo.
Just need to be patient and of course luck.

Used are good bargain but can end up on a bad one... this is the risk!

Good Luck.

The two Evos I have owned (05 & 08) were both used. No major problems.

With a little due diligence (Carfax, call Mitsu dealer and ask for complete service history & warranty status) you can sleep pretty soundly. Also never hurts to pay a reputable shop for a couple hours of labor to look the car over (inspect body for accidents, compression test, etc).

I always read out the ECU ROM and look for modifications there as well.
