heavy backfire

Alright so im having an issue with my 2008 Evo X. Maybe you guys can help me out and figure out what is causing it.

Sometimes when I'm 4th gear going about 45 mph(heading onto the freeway), ill put the pedal the floor, and my car will start back firing and sputtering terribly(usually at about 60 mph in this scenario). like it wants to stall out. it wont accelerate at this point. now if i let off the gas and ease it like normal people do to 70-80 mph usually there's no issue. this has happened in 2nd gear and 3rd gear before too. Ive been trying to figure out what triggers it in 2-4th gear and cant figure it out. Fifth gear i have it narrowed down. if im going 35 mph and put it in 5th gear, put petal to the floor, the car will accelerate normally until it reaches 2500-3000 rpm, then it will sputter and begin to backfire. Its going in the shop in two days for these people to figure out and fix whatever is wrong. The only thing added so far is a cat-back dual exhaust with 3inch piping(SAE installed). any suggestions / inputs are greatly appreciated and just maybe i can point the evo dudes at the shop in the right direction on Thursday so my car wont be out of commission for too long. all fluids are gtg too.

Take off the plastic Valve-cover cover and make sure that all the hoses are connected to the intake manifold.

They recall was put out not too long ago its all over the forum about people having problems due to the recall on the fuel pump relay switch. Check the link provided there is a bunch more just too lazy to check myself. So I got you halfway there

Found the problem today...the vacuum hose to the fuel pump was not tightened and installed correctly. Creating the boost pressure to backfire. Sooooo after 2 days of downtime my baby is back running at a 100% thanks for all the inputs though people.
