Just bought my newest Evo

So I bought my newest Evo today. 2010 phantom black evo X gsr with sight and sound, and so far I love it. Although I do wish it was a 6 speed (as my evo ix mr was and my 2008 bmw 335 were) It would help gas mileage on the highway a ton too because at 60 mpg in 5th gear the Evo X is at like 2850rpm.

I do miss the awesome turbo spool/intake suck sound and whoosh of the recirc valve between shifts and the growl from the exhaust from my modified ix tho. Question for guys out there with experience, will any open element intake achieve that turbo spool sound again? Would a drop-in on the X achieve some of that or not? Intake recomendations?

Also Does anyone know how the Greddy SE sounds on the X in comparison to the GreddyEvo 2 exhaust from my ix? I dont see myself being able to not do at least these basic mods (with a tune) so any recommendations to obtain similar results, both in performance, drivability, sound, fit/fitment and quality to what I had in my ix was is what Im lookin for.

Oh yeah, the mods in my sig are from the ix

if you add a cone filter, you will be able to hear the the spool and bov a lot more. i have the AEM intake atm and the turbo spool and bov is harder to hear on the count of the intake is in a box, but open cone filter/intake will provide sufficient sound of spooling/bov.

Havent people experienced issues with open element cone filters and shuddering issues tho when the AC is turned on unless they have a heat shield?
I like the open cone filter look and sound, but want to avoid drivability issues.

im running the AEM CAI as well.. im also running a full TBE and tune... i can hear the turbo spool up pretty damn nicely as along as my radio isnt "bumping" hahaha

i honestly prefer the AEM intake cause it looks stock and is carb legal

^^ +1

Even with the AEM Cai, you can hear the spool and the "swoosh" sound.. It doesnt sound over the top as it would with a HKS or whatever similar BOV..

You might have already heard that the factory tune is worthless.. When you get a decent amount of boltons and decide to tune, you will see some major differences. Night and day brotha.

Oh and welcome to the Dark side

I just have a K&N drop-in air filter, and you can hear the BOV really well with it. I dunno how that makes any sense, I just know that I wasn't able to hear the BOV before with the stock filter but I can now with the K&N.

With any intake that is more open than stock, you will hear the BOV more. I hear it more with a drop-in filter. I am sure you would hear it even more with a cone filter. Some cone filter kits come with shields so it's not affected by other fans running.

For best driveability, you would be fine with a drop-in intake. K&N, HKS, etc. You won't get much more power out of a cone, if any, once you are tuned with basic mods. Exhaust, IC pipes, tune. That's really all you need to start.

Cone filter intake will get you the turbo spool and swoosh sound you are looking for. Drop-in filter only do it a little. Most guys here will tell you AMS is the best cause most guys have it. Dont get me wrong they make great parts but I would also like to see why they make that claim, ie dyno charts before and after.

Here is a link to most of the exhaust that are available for the X

what this dude said.

you'll notice that the turbo spool sounds very different in the X. even with TBE and intake.

I honestly think at this point Im going to do a panel filter, then and turbo back exhaust and a tune when I have the extra money (Im getting married in 9 days)

For panel filters I know there's a alot, K&N, Works, Cosworth, Perrin etc etc recommendations on which to get and where to order from that has the best prices?

I have a Perrin one. It's an oil filter but it works great. No check engine light.
