One Lap Evo X 1st in class/4th overall
Where did you read that? There's 2 EvoX's here at one lap not including our team mates in the Galant VR4. So far everyone is still in the race.
The white EvoX piloted by Paul Seto and Barry Stewart had a serpentine belt shred on them as they were driving into Road America on Day 2. While Chris warmed up and chased down the demons at Road America, I spent the morning reinstalling the serpentine belt for them only to discover the idler pulleys were both bad. The belt kept pulling off the power steering and alternator pump pulleys. It wasn't race worthy but it got them to Chicago.
While I am on the topic, a huge shout out to Max Madsen Mitsubishi in Chicago. Once we figured out what was wrong, it was a scramble to find the parts to keep the White Evo X going as Road America is not exactly next to an autoparts store. At 11:30 AM, many service dealers were closing. Paul spent about 45 minutes calling everywhere from Wisconsin to Chicago to Iowa trying to find someone to fix it. The service department at Max Madsen stepped up. They kept the service center open late and kept a couple of mechanics around knowing the Evo was inbound. They fixed her up, replaced the 2 bad pulleys and the tensioner for good measure, and Paul and Barry met up with us the next day in Iowa to race. They couldn't have done it without the service folks that helped them out in a pinch.
Just an update, we are still 1st in class as of tonight after my runs around Mid-Ohio landed a 13th and 11th place for both events overall. This leaves us currently in 7th overall for the entire trip and within striking distance of 6th. Not bad since this is the first time I have ever been on that track. That seems to be a common theme between Chris and myself. We have zero track experience on all of these tracks before we hit them up. It's been a learn on the fly kind of deal.

Here's a couple new pictures, these are from Road America. Finding time to go through the literally hundreds of pictures and dozens of videos isn't very available but we should be able to trickle more out soon. You can find more at http://onelap.rochesterdsm.org

Thanks for all the kind words guys, we are having a great time fielding my car for this event and already making some plans for next year with all the contacts we are meeting during the trip.
Even though the car is somewhat "detuned" to 25 psi for longevity and we are driving it somewhat conservatively for the dangerous corners we are still holding on to a 1st in class and 7th overall finish. NJMP Lightning Raceway went well for me, finished 11th for the morning session and 10th for the afternoon with this being the first time driving the track. That still managed 2nd on class and solidified the overall standings. I was definitely moving faster and following the typical trend of conservative for the first session and improving on the second but overcooked turn 5 of the 2nd lap. I'll be sure to get some in car and outside car videos in the coming days!
Sean will be rounding out the week driving the somewhat bumpy Nelson Ledges roadcourse Friday and we have a good handle on how to dominate the dry skidpad this time around.

The one in Downers grove... yeah, not very good at all.
Love one, hate the other. Not all max madsen's are created equally evidently.
And great job representing!
Impressive performance so far. I've actually done a track day or two with Danny Popp (from the #5 Corvette currently in 3rd place overall). They're from the area and frequent a lot of 1010ths Motorsports events that I like. Of course, by "with" I mean me in the beginner class and he in the expert class
.
Both a local and a X doing well at One Lap. That's great!

Sean captured by Motor Trend driving at Nelson Ledges:

Me at NJMP Lightning Raceway:

Sean at Mid-Ohio:

Final Results & track videos should be posted by tomorrow. After driving for 4500+ miles during the last 11 days my ears are ringing and I need a good nights rest. Already gears are turning for next years run at the top 5, it's just a matter of sorting out all the details.

And now some pictures of the hardware. Chris and I were able to take 1st in class out of 10 cars and placed 7th overall of 68.

There have actually been quite a few Evo's in the top standings over the years but not since 2006 has there been one that won the Mid-priced Sedan class.
2003 - Dodge SRT-4 finished 8th - Evo 8 finished 16th
2004 - Evo 8 finished 5th (Paul Gerrard)
2005 - Evo 8 finished 7th (Martin Musial, Jon Krolewicz, Ray Krolewicz)
2006 - Evo 8 finished 3rd (Martin Musial, Jon Krolewicz, Ray Krolewicz)
2007 - Dodge SRT-4 finished 5th
2008 - Subaru Sti finished 10th
2009 - Subaru WRX finished 4th
2010 - Evo X finished 7th (Chris Wirth, Sean Caron)
Since this year our strategy for a rookie year was more survival than trying to compete with the top 5, you'll see us with a bit more aggressive setup for next year where our goal is to shake things up at the top of the standings. There are quite a few things already going on behind the scenes and getting ready for next year is going to be a blast.
