One Lap Evo X 1st in class/6th overall
Just wanted to do a quick road update from the One Lap of America event. Nearing the halfway point we are clinging onto 1st in class and slid into 6th overall after a strong showing in the drag racing events and consistent placing in the road courses. Our fiercest competition is the #6 Subaru STI and we are going to do our best to represent the Evo community the best we can!

Keep it up! That's a very well built STI you're competeing against, and I think it's their second year doing it. So they have the experience on you with regards to everything (car prep, etc.)

Thanks guys, just got a spare moment after the morning session here at Gateway International Raceway. It turns out that while we are still 1st in class, our overall standing got corrected to 6th overall after they re-calculated how the points were assigned for people losing in earlier rounds of the bracket racing.
That Sti is a great car and even after scaling the power back it appears that their had launches took their toll. Just before I ran they powered out of the starting line and after the first turn it was apparent something was wrong with their car. We spotted white smoke shoot up and then people reported a wheel coming off the left rear of the car. Turns out the rear axle broke and they are scrambling to make repairs. You never like to see your competitors take a hit like that because it was going to be a fight down to the last dry skidpad event to hold them off I'm sure.
I took a more conservative morning session and made notes of where it will be safe to get more speed out on the high banked oval with infield road course setup at Gateway. If we can keep the car reliable at 25 psi and not push the limits where we don't have to, we should have a solid shot at finishing 1st in class and maybe hold onto the top 10 overall. I guess time will tell!

The STI is a beast. Well built, tuned, and put together. Runs really strong. Erik has a ton of experience and Mike is a pretty damn good driver as well. Both really aggressive and they know how to push that car around.
The bigger issues is just the same issues any highly modified STI will have. Last year it was cooling at Sebring. This year, during the drag races, they were launching ***** out on a VERY sticky surface ( Tulsa Dragway VTR'd the entire strip + 5 feet beyond the 1/4 line. ). We really thought it was going to be a STi - EvoX final in the brackets. Both cars ran about the same ( 12.25 vs 12.28 ) for the initial ET run. That launching might have stress fractured the rear axle at the hub which led to the the bearing burning up on the lateral forces of the first few corners. Once the retaining clip popped, there was pretty much nothing holding it in.
We were really looking forward to a competitive battle to the end with the guys in the STi. You always like coming out on top, but it never feels right unless its in the heat of competition. Although breakage is a part of racing, it still sucks as this is just as much a fraternity of like-minded idiots who want to go outrageously fast on as many tracks as we can fit all while suffering from shear exhaustion. They were running great, making up ground on the big boys and us, and would have been great to see both us and them in the top 10 overall at the end.

Keep up the good work guys. I am very happy to have our name on the side of a winning car! I wish I could hang with you guys on the Thursday in Jersey but it isn't in the cards this time.
