Post your gas mileage with pics as proof

Ok so I have had many people basically call me a liar about my mileage. I took pics at my last fill up and I mean FULL... like I could see the gas at the top of the tank. Oddly, the fuel meter was showing NO fuel at all, so I thought I was going to be able to get at least 13.8 or 13.9 gallons in the car. I took the pics with my phone, problem is that my phone (lg vx10000) won't let me take the pics off without a mirco sd card, which I have ordered and should be here soon. When it comes in, I will be sure and post the pics. I am trusting that people here will be honest about their mileage and how they drive, but let's make a sticky about it and for those interested maybe we can help each other with little tips since gas seems to be going up everyday yet AGAIN.

This particular last tankfull was a lot of town miles... at least 35% I would say. I also have done about 6-10 WOT pulls from 2500-5000 RPM's for logging purposes.

The mileage total was 277.6
Fuel fill up was: 12.423 gallons
Total mileage: 22.34 mpg average.

Mods are TBE, UICP, Drop in, 3 port, recirc BOV.
Car is tuned with added timing in the cruise load cells.
Fluids: AMSoil for engine, transmission and TC. Gear oil will also be AMSoil shortly.

As promised... here are my pics...

I recently had to drive 300 miles for a business meeting. This trip was 85% highway. Did 70-80 mph the whole way and averaged 24.0 mpg. Good thing for the highway miles, otherwise mileage around town is closer to 21.

Did you fill up right before? Just curious if you got the 300 miles out of the tank.

Use Fuelly to track your fuel consumption over multiple fill-ups, don't use the onboard computation.

I'm not using that... i'm using the pen and paper method which is pretty damn accurate. How do you drive? A lot of WOT runs? Do you stop completely at stop signs? Do you slow down a lot way ahead of red lights? Are you tires up to pressure? How fast do you drive down the highway?

That is sad. I got 18.5 mpg on E-85. I'm averaging 15 mpg with my normal driving. These are calculated values, as my onboard reads real high because my ECU thinks I have 30% smaller injectors than I actually do.

Unfortunately i'm 100% city driving. Tire pressure is good, I slow down ahead of time and completely stop at stop lights / signs. I do a couple WOT runs per tank. *shrug* I don't drive THAT crazy....

I am running a 91 map and using 94 octane gas though. I was STILL getting a little knock at high RPM's, so I figured I would continue using 94 despite running a 91 map.

ummm i'd get that worked out no matter what... never good to run one map and use a different octane. I don't know if you have to sit at any stop lights.. but I read if you have to sit for longer than 7 seconds, shut your engine off.. you're burning up a lot more gas than you need to. If I am driving around town, I have gotten 21 mpg, but that's driving VERY easily and a few longer stretches of road, but they do include some stops, grocery runs, around town errands, etc.

As long as the Octane rating of the Fuel is higher then your map you are fine. I run 94 Octane fuel on 91 map most of the time. Very rare do I put the 93 map in (track days excluded)

I get 20.10 MPG driving in the city, but most of the roads are 60Kph - 80 Kph where I go thats not putting my foot in it. Worst in the city is about 16.8MPG

Thats with Cobb OTS Stage 2 map 91 Octane. Did better with my Stage 1 map.

With an average of 24 miles to the gallon, I think it's safe to say Evos were not meant to be a gas friendly car.

You've got that right! Luckily the fun factor makes it all worth while.

Shutting off everytime you sit for more than 7 seconds may save gas, I'm not arguing that, but it's rediculous.

I will take pictures of the next time I do this calc as I do it everytime so i can see how much certian driving styles affect gas millage.

for informational purposes I seem to get 21MPG with open loop cruise. (more timing in cruise cells and leaner AFR's)

My gas millage seemed to have gone down 3 points or so from putting in my S2 cams.

Prior to my cams and the open loop cruise I did a work trip that was a full day of driving. I got 330 miles on one tank. This was 100% interstate driving and i was doing 65-67 the entire way. I was getting paid millage and my salary broken up into an "hourly rate" so It was beneficial for my to take my time and do the speed limit. Anyway with the 330 miles on that first tank it averaged to 28.8 or 28.9MPG i remember it was just under 29mpg's. Again this was 100% interstate. literally.

Anyone notice big decreases in gas millage when they installed cams?

-Ethan

Ill work on getting some pics up.
