Does any of you have stripped their Evo (if yes comes inside)

I am thinking to transform my Evo as a real Race car.
I barely use it on the street.

I want to make it as light as possible and remove everything that is not functional as far as handling braking and Performance.
I am not going to buy very expensive part just to save 20lbs (i.e carbon fiber doors)

I tracked it twice and see the potential for a very fast car but definitely a lot of improvement to be fast.

I already have removed everything in the trunk, the door panels, the carpet, the roof lining, the speakers, the amplifier, the window door motor, the front window, etc...

I still want to remove the dash board as I think there is a significant weigh saving.
I will remove the recaro seat and go with light carbon fiber bucket. HELP HERE For those that already done it.

I think I will remove the rear windows and go with lexan.

I will remove all the airbags.

I saw a lot of plastic cover endur the bay engine and think I will remove them.

There is a huge amount of wire. Is this easy to remove all the wire harness and jsut go with a simple computer for the engine. HELP HERE For those that already done it.

I will remove the stock exhaust and go with a Single cat back Exhaust

I think I will switch to 2pc rotors.

I still need to add some weight:
Roll cage
Efficient cooling brakes.
bigger sway bars

If any of you know an Evo X that already have done this help is appreciated.

thanks

Probably should keep most of the dash in place, unless you have something else to replace it with. Remove everything inside the dash, i.e radio, air conditioning/heater control unit. Replace the steering wheel with a detachable for ease of entering and exiting, especially with high bolstered racing seats and cage in place. Removing unneccessary wiring will shed a few pounds.

No sure what kind of track venues you are attending, but the SCCA class rules are very specific especially when removing and replacing items for lighter parts and can throw you in with some trailored track only cars.

Going from stock-street prepared is a huge enough leap but legal, but going into street modified and prepared will need a ready track only car to keep up in some venues.

I will eventually go this route with my STI, after I buy my wife a Audi S4, I will keep my Trailblazer as my DD and tow truck. I only tracked with a Mini, and its a blast even in the Stock class.

Decide what sanction body you are going to compete with and in, and decide from there as to what class you want to compete in before modifing your car first. Then choose what you are going to do from a build stand point.

Place the parts that your strip and will not need for sale and make some money back which you can then put into the car!

Best of luck!! Do a tear down and build up thread (with lots of pics lol)

to answer some of your question.
I know about SCCa I visited them few years ago and decided not to go with them. So I went to NASA with the intention to find what I am going to do.
I am not going to spend $20K to race a Camaro.
The Porsche Spec seems fun for not a lot of money to race wheels to wheel. And I think next year I may do it.
As I said I won't sell the Evo the car is paid it is two years so not worth 35 but only 25k
buying an old Evo or Sub may not be way cheaper.

As far as the dash I am a little hesitant but really would like to have the feed back with some one that already done it.
As I mentioned as I would like to install a cage and I will need to remove it to do so.

/\ ROFLMAO!!! OP, take what has been said with a grain of salt and realize that not everyone will tell you the truth. Maybe your jumping in to the "real" racecar thing a bit too quickly.

How about maybe hitting the gym or running a couple days a week? That would shed some pounds off your car...

Why is everyone being so hard on him?

Hes asking for help and expressing what (HE) wants to do not telling you what you should do.

Come on guys!

To help you out i dont know much about the wiring or anything in the dash but things like small battery and removing the windsheild fluid stuff would be a good idea.

i dont think you can remove the dash since the cluster is part of it...

but yeah all the obvious stuff can be removed...

have you got a tune on the car?

honestly the amount of $$$'s you can spend is endless, and really the stuff you are talking will be big $$$'s (ie the dash)

The washer fluid tank has been removed.

Research the rules required for the types of races you want to race in. A lot of racing organizations require a lot of this stuff you plan to take out or replace. You cant just plan on stripping out a full car to make it full race.

I think the issue is that people are being hard on him because of his blanket statement of just removing items. A real race is prepared for the class it will enter. You can't just show up with a fully gutted car running 500 whp and try to race in the street class.

Track wheels
Remove back seat
Remove passenger seat
Replace glass with lexan
You can custom make a dash out of metal but to make it look good its gonna cost some cash
Replace doors with Carbon Fiber
Replace roof with Carbon fiber
lighter weight flywheel
2 piece rotors
Brake Cooling Ducts
remove all stereo, speakers, and associated wiring

I didn't search, but there is a calculator that shows you estimates for every lb you lose its equivalent to X amout of power.

To go fast, costs money..... the more money you have, the faster you will get.

Research Ryan Gates with the EVO X, he has destroyed many records in his car and I believe his car is not overally gutted.

After you do the weight, your gonna have to invest some serious money into the suspension and motor to compete in the class that setup would put you in.

You are looking at probably and JRZ coilovers, cage, wide tires, any sway bar setup and bracing that you are looking at.
Estimated cost around $8k give or take

Motor work
Turbo kit
built motor probably a stroker motor to gain the extra torque
built head - cams - springs n retainers
supporting mods
Estimated cost $10-15k

That is not even taking in consideration the trans and t case re build from masta shep, or the $1500-2,000 clutch
or the aero work which can be down right expensive....

I am probably a bit light on the money estimates but to build an all out track car is not cheap nor will it be for any car depending on what class you go in.

You just might want to start by building a setup for one class, the race that class for a year and see if you wanna move up or down. that will save you some money and gain you some good seat time in the evo... stupid comment i know but the more seat time you have in your evo, you will continue to get faster and faster as you get more comfortable with it.

Best of luck
