Car idiling terrible.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted some input to this annoying little problem. My stock 08 MR idles like it wants to die. The revs bounce around from probably 900 to 450 or so...a few times I though it was going to stall, but it didn't.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fatgLi46Qb4

This a vid I took of the tach...and I swear I am not touching anything. It runs like this with the a/c on or off.

It's still running the stock air filter at 6500 miles...planning to get an HKS drop in early next week, but seriously, anyone have any ideas what the problem is here, or has anyone else experienced this?

If I need to bring it to the dealer then I have to, but the dealer is quite a drive, so I was hoping to avoid it if possible.

I also pulled the battery and did a little ecu reset, but nothing changed.

Any help/ideas are appreciated.

Mine and lots of other MR's do this too... sometimes my car would even start shaking like it was about to stall! After I changed my oil, shaking went away, and only occasionally does the idle blips. When was the last time you changed your oil?

if you pulled the battery it has to relearn idle. that looked similar to it rev searching after you disconnect the battery.

there's a thread in here somewhere, it has all the recall for 08 X and it includes the timing issue. Look for it , you might need it when you go back to the dealer

My 2010 MR does this as well. I bought the car new and have changed the oil twice already. I am now sitting at 3,000 miles and she still idles the same. Oh and I am completely stock as well.

There's an infamous vacuum line that pops off located on the left side of the intake manifold. Make sure that all vacuum hoses are intact.

this ^ and also while your car is doing this, I would not drive it very hard. If its your vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator, you could be runniny VERY lean.

the battery would have nothing to do with it if its running, the alternator would keep it on even if the battery was bad. Now if the alternator is bad then yes.

I would check the line next to the dipstick like others have said.

Yup, there are two common causes for this. One is that you're on an early flash, as this was resolved by Mitsubishi as part of a TSB. The second is if you've lost a vacuum line. The vacuum lines you can check, but you'll have to make a trip to the dealer for the flash.

Im in the same boat, have the same problem. brought it to my inexperienced dealer about two months ago and waited 4 hours for them to tell me that they couldn't find anything in their mitsubishi database on a reflash, and that it must be common. I know its probably bs from their end but does anyone know if this reflash has a name or a reference code to provide to the dealer. Im just thinking my dealer is incompetent.
