It's still under some sort of warranty from the dealership, right? Sounds like it could be the turbo.

You'd be crazy not to take it back to them...unless you like spending your own money on things you shouldn't have to.

I believe so. I just don't want to get shafted so I'd rather have some ammo or ideas of what it could be. I saw another post similar to this one but never saw solution. I just did oil change to and saw nothing suspect. And there us def no loss if power. I've never dealt with this b4

I should add that the only add ons are a blow off valve and turbo timer. And the smoke is not a huge amount but is definately noticable. I can't see it from rear mirror so it's not huge. Some ppl say it might b air leak or turbo gasket.. Mayb bov. Or oil but it's not blue it's pure freaking white... WTF??

as above, white = water as you know, is the x turbo water cooled? could be the seal if so with the added heat at WOT could be expanding it slightly allowing a leak.

has you coolant level dropped at all?

I have no idea if it's water cooled... Dealer said the other day when I talked on phone that if it has a turbo timer to turn it down to 30 sec because too much oil can sit in there so I can only assume at that point it is oil cooled. I check level of coolant and seems ok.

Perform a compression or leakdown test to rule out the head gasket and if that checks out it is almost always the seals in the turbo. Under boost some can leak which seeps water into the charging system, and thus white smoke appears in the exhaust. Has to be either the HG or the turbo though, so as I stated, do a compression or leakdown test to rule out the HG then if that checks out, pull the turbo and check for shaft play. The seals may still leak if there isn't any shaft play in the turbine, but if there is than that is almost always a sure fire sign something is wrong with it.

I'm going to do a pressure test on rad in about an hour and see what happens. After that... Guess I'll watch level and see. Guess I'll call dealer mon and make appt. Anyone know anything about manufacturer warranties. Can I go to any dealer cuz the one I got it from sucks.

with the stock exhaust, i always thought unburnt fuel under WOT looked like a white mist, not the big dark plume like others think. i know i don't have any issues because now i have some mods and am running e85 and no more smoke/white mist under WOT.

just thought i'd put it out there. do a compression test and if it checks out and it drives and pulls smoothly just let it go and enjoy the car.

also see if you can dig up Edmunds Inside Line video where they test the evo x back in 2008. i remember a rear shot of the dude taking off and seeing the same white mist. that may settle your nerves.

White smoke is usually a result of water going into the cylinder. With two years and 14,000 miles is your car not under warranty? I wouldn't even think about repairing it out of pocket. Talk to the dealer, they should be willing to repair the car at no cost to you.

Buchnerj, is it common for the turbo shaft or seals to fail @ 14K in the EVO X?

Take it to the dealer. If they say there is nothing wrong, take it back again. If they say there is nothing wrong, take it back again. You have no documented 3 times where you have taken the car back and it is subject to the lemon law. They now will have to take the vehicle back and refund you your money.

The car most likely either has a bad head gasket or has blown turbo seals.

Whites smoke means something other than oil is being burned. Our turbo's are cooled by coolant, as when I was at CBRD they had a failed on on the bench and it had lots of coolant on it from overspin.

It could be coolant, transfluid, or any other fluid other than oil. It also could be an issue, after the engine, I dont think its the engine, however I could be wrong.

As others have said, you really should get it looked at. Change the oil, and look at it. Check your fluid levels, and then check them again in a fwe days and see if they change.

hummm I had the same problem where white smoke came out of my exhaust after taking it apart to find that the turbo was out, so that could be your problem
