anyone have rust spots?
I hate washing my car because everytime I do I notice something that pisses me off. Right behind where the rear passenger door is I have a few lil spots of rust, this should be covered by the anticorrosion part of the warranty right? Its likr lttle pin holes of rust, freaking sucks. I'm going to call them later on and see what happens.
I have the same color and issue as you do only not as bad as you describe. The rock chips are definately the culprit. Let us no what you find out. Btw I have 6900 miles on my car and have had a couple pop up a couple thousand miles ago. I just wash my car in the shade and tend to pay less attention to that particular area as it gets me pissed to inspect it thoroughly.

Yea you have the same exact car as me u don't live in my area by any chance, I see your from the same state, I seen a silver X the other day in my city fall river
Are you sure it's not just brake dust, rail dust, or road residue from winter? I noticed my wife's car has a bunch of these little spots that look like rust but I could scratch most of them off with my fingernail and the rest all came off with clay bar.

Good luck on getting it covered under the corrosion warranty. I have an 03 that has some rust on the passenger side rear wheel well and I took it in last week to see if they would cover it because I still have about 6 months left on my corrosion warranty but no such luck. The guy even had the nerve to ask if I drove the car in the winter... My only thought was "We're in Northern IL numbskull!!! What do you think???" Long story short, after talking to the rep at Mitsu my impression is that the corrosion warranty is just a ploy to make you feel better about buying the car and it doesn't really exist. For every spot of rust and corrosion that I showed him he had an excuse for why it wouldn't be covered, and usually his excuse was that it was caused by something chipping the paint. I think the only way they would cover anything is if you never drove the car and somehow the rust managed to get in there anywhere and go completely through the metal.
I think it's especially disheartening that you guys with the Evo X's are already having problems with rust. It makes me seriously question Mitsubishi's qaulity of paint and workmanship. Before I got my Evo I had a '98 Ford Contour SVT that had it's fair share of knicks and chips in the paint, but it still didn't have a single spot of rust on it. The rep even admitted to me that Ford uses a better primer that prevents rust from forming from small chips so why in the world wouldn't Mitsu do the same thing??? "Of all the cheap, low-down, dirty ways to save a buck!!!"

I thank my lucky stars that most of the attention went into engine/drivetrain development.
Also no manufacture will cover surface rust. Only perforation. Lots or people will let rock chips go un-repaired causing surface rust and manufacturers just won't cover it. We had rust bubbles on the hatch of our 2002 Protege 5 only three years from new. These were legit rust bubbles and Mazda basically said they couldn't do anything until there was perforation. Needless to say we got rid of the POS as it was falling apart after 3 years faster than you would expect of a 10 year old car.

Where is this mass of rust problems you are speaking of? I highly doubt the OP has any rust issues as all.

No one said there was a massive rust problem but the OP did state that he already had pinholes of rust forming. My point was that a car that is only two years old shouldn't have any rust on it at all period. Rock chips or no rock chips. I've owned plenty of cars that were over 10 years that didn't have any rust on them and all of them had plenty of scratches and rock chips.
I have the same color as you and I too noticed the same little pin hole rust spots on my car when I first got it. After putting the second coat of wax on, I haven't seen another rust spot since.
I also have small nicks on the rear doors, but none have ever shown rust. IMO it's surface contaminates in the paint or from environment, not the actual body panels rusting, because I even saw these little rust spots on the aluminum roof, hood, and front fenders.

Here is how you can tell if it is not actual rust:
Check your front fenders and side skirts for the same pinholes of rust. If these parts have it, then it is not rust, because your fenders are aluminum and the sideskirts are plastic. Only the doors, quarter panels and trunk lid can rust.
