since its what 6 yrs until the 1st smog check
did you go with just a cat back, or full turbo back?

on the fence right now, plan to get the tomei exhaust
cosworth drop in (heard aem intake won't fit with lower pipes?)
ams intercooler + pipes

just deciding on getting the (ams)dp or not, from reading around it seems ~10-15 hp ?

tune coming up. then onto suspension

mmmm i'm going full turbo-back... already have my AMS 02 dp, but need to take it to a shop to get it installed. I'm pretty sure that if you just stick on the stock cat converter it should pass smog anyway. I just smogged my 02 subaru bugeye right before i sold it. just put on one cat and drove it for about 30 min before taking it to the smog station and it passed with flying colors =)

oh and i think you'd still need to shave the stock airbox if you wanna fit the AMS LICP. Atleast thats what my roommate did with his X. I went with the AMS intake =P

actually was going to go with a high flow cat.
reason i wanted the aem was the "stock" look.

dont want to get pulled over and ref'd for an intake.
at least the other parts are harder to see

I went full turbo back, intake, and a bunch of other goodies... I've kept all my stock stuff, just in case I ever have to take it in.

I'm pretty sure that the HFC still won't pass smog, unless you get the fancy ones that are pretty expensive. I currently have one from RRE on mine and i still smell fumes when i get out of the car slightly.

You can get the AEM one or go with a drop in... you're just going to have to modify either a bit to fit the LICP. I know the Injen one is Carb Approved too so maybe look into that? It comes as a combo pack with an upper intercooler pipe too.

..I smogged my GSX last year with a HFC and passed with no problems. That was with upgraded fp, 750cc, fp green, and tuned. It was a 3" magnaflow HFC I got from a muffler store.

seriously... $2500? So wait, if a CHP pulls you over its $2500 right off the bat? You don't get a chance to put one on and then go for an inspection? If you have a HFC you'll avoid this fine?
