Lightbulb Headlights going crazy!?!

So here's the story:

Got out of the house this morning to go to work, pressed on the unlock button on my remote and nothing happens. So I'm like: humm, weird?!? I had to use the key to unlock the door and at that point I was pretty sure the car wouldn't start. And sure enough, nothing happened.

Thing is, today is Friday and last time I drove the car was Monday. The headlights shut off automatically when I turn the car off and all my doors were closed properly, so it wasn't the dome light that had remained on either.

At that point, I remembered the thread that I had read here about bad batteries from factory so I thought it might be just that. A defective battery that is losing its charge by itself. So I went to work with my yaris as I didn't want to have to jump start the evo when I leave work.

I left work early, around lunch time as I wanted to take the car to the dealership to have it checked in the afternoon. I finally didn't have to use booster cables on the evo as it started on the first try. I drove the car straight up to the dealership, they did some checks and they said the battery isn't throwing any error codes, but the charge was low. So can't replace it under warranty for now. He said I should try to charge it very slowly with a battery charger, at like 2-6 amps for 24 to 48 hours and to come back if it doesn't keep its charge after that.

I then got back home, did a few things and then I was about to leave when my neighbor on the other side of the street shouted at me: "Hey! Did you leave your lights on last night? Because a woke up in the middle of the night and took a peek outside and saw the lights were on on your car!"

I'm like wtf? I didn't drive the car for three days... What could have caused this?

I went out for a drink with a few friends last night and they dropped me off at my place around 11pm and the lights on the evo were totally off!

So my conclusion is that the freaking headlights turned on by themselves and drained the battery out. Does that make any sense whatsoever?

BTW, idk if it matters, but last week when I washed my car, I noticed some humidity inside the passenger side headlamp. Also, there was big storm last night that lasted only about 10 minutes, but it was pretty intense, lots of rain and big winds in a short period of time. These are the only things that could have affected the condition of the car...

What do you guys think?

If you haven't named your car yet you should name her Christine because it's friggin' possessed!

Seriously, I just read something on this board not to long ago about a guy with a similar problem. Do a search, it should be on here and pretty recent iirc. His lights were doing the same thing but he actually caught it in action.

Edit: just read through that particular thread and seems a faulty relay is to blame.

Search: lights turning on randomly.

Hope this helps!

You're hilarious!!

Thanks for the find!! I'll try replacing my relays I guess. I'm wondering if it's just a matter of changing the headlight relay, because the other guy says that every light was turned on inside and outside the car... the dash and everything.

Dude, get a priest. Get your car blessed . It sounds like a relay glitch.
