Steering wheel audio controls activate hands free system

Twice now, I started my car up after working all day and tried to adjust the audio volume/track selector using the controls mounted to the steering wheel (Car is equiped with Factory NAV, steering wheel audio and hands free controls) and the stereo audio controls have activated the hands free system.

In both instances I tried turning the car off and on to see if it was a software glitch some where, but this did not fix the problem.

I drove home which is about 20-30minutes at which point I park in the garage, and all of a sudden it works fine.

Its only happened twice now and not with any regularity (about 3 months apart).

I'm thinking I have a short in a wiring harness somewhere but I can't get it to re-produce the symptoms.

I'm sure if I take it to the dealer they are not going to be able to find the problem without it acting up at the time.

Anyone else experiencing this type of problem or have heard of it?

Thinking of contacting the deal to at least point out that I'm having this issue while still under warranty.

Note: The car is completely stock.

This has happened to me several times in the past 2 years. It lasts a few hours and then goes away for months. Told the dealer about it, and of course
they could not duplicate it.

I can tell you the probably cause:

Basically all of those buttons are connected to one wire that feeds to the radio*. When a button is pressed there is a quick drop in current that the radio reads as a certain button press. The drop is different with each button press which is how the radio can have so many buttons on one line. Anyways if your car is supplying more current at a given time you may throw the radio off. I know with my aftermarket adapter it happens often.

This had NEVER happened to me until the other day. I went to turn the volume down from the steering wheel, and the voice activation came on. I pushed a few buttons, and it never happened again.

had it happen on an outlander (same platform for those who dont know) and it was a faulty clock spring in the steering wheel causing the issue. somewhat common problem on a certain batch released. covered by warranty.

Interesting... The only time it happened to me was while the wheel was turned.
