Strange Noise w/ Vid
So the car has made this noise 3 times in the last 2.5 months. It's loud enough that you can hear it in the car, windows up music going. First time I thought it was the fuel pump and it was acting up since the car was hot/low on gas. 2nd time was at night, 10 mins into my drive home with the car still cool/ full gas tank. 3rd time was yesterday on the drive home from San Marcos.
First 2 times I would turn the car off, (noise continues with car on/off) then when I start her back up it stops. Well yesterday it didn't stop until I unplugged the battery... I let her sit 10 mins and she has been running fine since.
The car has already been to the dealership for it and spent a day there to be driven around be the shop foreman. He said he was able to reproduce the sound it made, then drove a brand new X MR and got the same noise... bs
I have tried to reproduce the sound myself and have not been able to.
The guys at MDR said it could be the ACD but where not sure. Anyone have any idea what it could be??
(I'm filming where I think the noise is coming from)

WTF it sounds like a wookie getting stabbed in the heart! no but seriously it sounds like a servo of some kind but i dont know what servo would be back there. it must have to do with your differential
holy crap dude...that sounds sooo bad!!! i honestly have no idea what that is... but when you came back to the right side of the rear it got louder.. like the previous post it could be the diff... its weird that its happening while the car is idle...
good luck.. keep us posted.. i wish i could help out more...this is really strange

I am not sure how I can go about checking it out. The dealership already looked at it and is sticking to their "it's normal" story. Both shops I talked to told me they can't do much without it making the noise and I can't get it to make the noise again.

OK, so the car is making the noise right now. Disconnected the battery, let it sit, and when I reconnect it the noise continues. I turned the car off and started looking for the source and found it.
(Not my car lol, only pic I could find)

What is that? Those lines vibrate along with the noise, specially that line with the bracket close to the tire.
Anyone know if its safe to drive with that noise going on?? Im stuck at a friends house. Car isn't acting up and no CEL.

Bump for help... 3 days now and the noise is still there. Checked fluid its full, left the car off the battery for 2 days and it keeps doing it the second I plug it back up.
I'm thinking something with the electric motor in my AYC pump is stuck or something, anyone know the troubleshoot procedure for this thing? Or maybe were the location of the relay and/or fuse for it is? (maybe the relay/fuse died?)

Honestly... If the dealer drove it and said it's normal let it ride. Just make sure you keep a copy of the R.O. When it breaks go back to the same dealer and say I told you so. Or better yet, ask the Foreman to replicate this noise with another Evo in your presence.
Either way, it will all fall back on them. Give Mitsu corporate a call also if you like. Make sure that everyone knows what is going on.

Update*
I plugged the car to the battery yesterday (4 days off the battery) and it no longer made the noise. Instead I now have a service required msg, it was the one that shows the drivetrain with the front wheels turned.
Put the car on the trailer and took it to MDR, now I'm just waiting to see what they find out.

Update*
Had the car at MDR for while. Finally went to the dealership and sat down with the service manager. After a good talk they agreed to do all the work necessary under warranty. WOOT!!
He mentioned that another 08 Evo X MR had come in making the same noise. They contacted Mitsu and were told to bleed the system and clear the hard codes. This apparently fixed the issue.
Well I just got a call from them saying that my entire pump unit is toast. Should be getting a new one in tomorrow (along with more info of what went wrong) and hopefully get the car running before Sat.
Word of Advice: The service manager told me that the owner of the other X MR brought the car in the first time it made the noise. I had the car make the noise 2 times before I was able to get it checked out. If you hear this noise, do something about it ASAP! lol

Make sure to keep all aftermarket parts clear of your car, and take it to the dealer and tell them to go away. Play dumb about the car. If the dealer refuses, demand to talk to the district rep. That will light the fire in their pants.
