Possibly new X GSR owner. Some Questions.
Fantastic. Thanks everyone for the answers to my questions. For once on a forum just about all was answered. Yeah, I love my TL dont get me wrong, I just think the Evo is the way to go.
I currently have NO tickets and dont drive like a moron. I just want a Fast, Reliable car that can do quite a bit more than the average sports sedan. And I am quite aware of the Evo's performances and I am QUITE impressed. And where I live we have some interesting weather in our NY upstate mountains. I think the Evo should climb through the Winters, fly through the summers, and cruise through the fall times. Plus im great with maintenance.
If anyone's interested here's my current car: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...z/IMG_1474.jpg

I'd list the mods if anyone wants. It's a nice quick car.
I kept it stock looking on the outside but under the hood blue additions. Strut bar, intake etc.
I'm looking into the blue Evo since, while I do love black cars, it's just a nag to clean. Plus i've always digged the blue Evo's. Thanks everyone for the quick answers!

Another question would be: What's to be done with maintenance. And whats the best fluids to be used and is it compatible with the Mitsubishi warranty? My friend's STI runs Royal Purple.
There isnt any special way to doing it correct? I can still change my Oil and tranny fluid myself right?
On my TL I changed Transmission fluid and oil all the time myself and never at a dealer or shop.
This is going to be my DD so I want to know normal maintenance can still be done myself. After reading up on how picky the Mitsubishi service centers are i'm just curious. Haha. I tend to do the general maintenance myself. Thanks!

I have23k on the clock with my GSR.
Mods- 3inch rexspeed DP, cobb AP, full TBB, and intake and AMS intercooler w/pipes
I average about 22 mpg combine city and highway.
I track the car 3-4 times during the summer.
Stock clutch with no slip.
Insurance is about 64 a month with 500 deduct, full coverage.
I'm 24, Married, no points.
Car runs great and is very reliable.

I've thought about just putting my mom's name on the car and having me as the second driver. That would cut costs I believe greatly. I currently have Allstate. :P

The frequency of the maintenance will be a bit of a surprise to you, if you're comnig from a Honda. Firstly, oil should be changed at 3,000; forget the manual, the shop training Mitsu publishes says 3,000. The stuff gets hot and breaks down fast. Only can use Synthetic, which fortunately now can be had with filter for ~$30 for a change.
The drivetrain fluids must be changed every 30,000 miles or sooner. There's basically two areas, F plus R, each having two things you need to change. The F stuff (tranny and transfer) you can actually fill from above, but the R LSD and torque transfer (ATF) need to be pumped in when filling.
Also, while you might have had a built TL, you don't know how to eat tires and brakes like an Evo will. I manage the tire wear by DD running a set of Yoko W4S all-season tires, they last great, are ok in snow and rain, but are scary as hell when going fast on curves, compared to the stocker Advans or things like the Dunlop Z1s. Brakes only lasted me 24,000 and getting GOOD brakes for things like the track will run you a lot more than you probably ever needed or could benefit from in a TL. i.e. Hawk DTC-70 race pads for the front are $325; Mitsubishi replacement fronts are also over $350. Those are things you might as well know and budget for.
Dang, and I didn't even get the tune things costs introduced ;-) One thing that's good for you to know is most things you do to tune these will lean out the gas a little. My TBE mod allows my Evo to get 27-28 mpg at 60-65 mph on country highways, maybe a little higher. That's comparable to that 2.0 Camry's mileage. However, you probably won't get many tanks with that average. Its way to fun to step on the gas, even a little, and feel that boost push you back. Hard to not do it, and even a little of that drops the average down fast. At the track, my average mpg was 5 mpg. Pretty low.
These vids from Mitsubishi could make a difference in your thought processes. Great info in them:

@journeymansteve Thanks so much! Those videos are actually VERY interesting. I like the music they chose to use. Haha. Very dramatic. Thanks. It gives me a better understanding of how they are made compared with a Honda. With my TL since I drove it sometimes very hard I would average about 3,000-4000 as is on oil changes. I used Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic. I would also get about 20 around city and 29-30 highways. Would it be wise to use the standard Mobile 1 Synthetic or is there stuff better? I love the Pennzoil Ultra.
I've only run the Mobile1 black, but I won't argue any posts that say there's better. I just don't know any better than what it came with, and figure if I change it early/fast/soon, it can last me like that Camry I owned for 20 years treated me. 330,000 with me having all but 70k of that means I know how to keep engines happy.

I also came from an Acura TL (2006), and have NOT regretted it one bit.
I will have to say, from my experience with owning a turbo'ed car (Jetta 1.8T), that adding the turbo is just adding a bunch of things that can fail. These type of cars will cost you BIG time in the long haul, either from repairs or from modding (mostly from modding). The reason modding gets expensive is because they are very easy to mod with good HP/$ ratios relative to their NA'ed counterparts.
In summary, if you are serious about this car be sure you can afford it. Good luck with your decision, and post a picture when you get it!

I've heard of the old Lancia's from the 80's lasting upwards of a 1/4 million miles and years and years of operating. I think it's ultimately how well you treat it, both in maintenance, and in understanding metal -- cars talk to us. Don't abuse what they don't want to do. My Evo may not always be able to run 100%, but 98% is awesome! Ok, I'd take 40% to get it over that camry.
