My 1st time test-driving EVO

I think I've read every review and watched all the youtube videos about this car and yet I didn't know what to expect from IT.. So is it normal to experience following parallel feelings?

> is this car really made by Mitsu?
> why is it so hard for me to breath when it's in Super sport mode?
> did i just have sex with a 19-yr old where i wanted to do everything from start to finish and repeat all over again..
> i'm so glad i bought a bmw first so i know how brilliant Evo drives now..
> i couldn't tell it had only 4 cylinder and 4 means death in Chinese but it's also 2.0cc so 4 times 2 is 8 and 8 is prosperity or some sort in Chinese and it's my lucky number.. ya i know..
> why do all Mitsu dealers look like an oversize roach coach...
> I love the Ricaro seats and I would sleep in it..
> I can't wait to scare the crap out of my co-workers with the Rockford stereo (btw, i don't see a USB port for my ipod)

My specs: middle aged, asian, 6'1", 187lbs
Current car: 08 BMW 335i

Test car specs: '10 Evo MR Touring, Phantom blk, 55miles, Glendale Mitsu

Lol, it's such a shame this thread'll get stuck in the newbie forum, when it soo deserves to be in the old off-topic/backroom for a proper chuckle instead.

Ah well, here's something useful.. there is no USB port, just an auxiliary input (70-year old phono jack technology, lol). However, USB input is included in Mitsu's new FUSE stereo system, which is rumored to make it to the 2010 Evo X SE and possibly the GSR/MR later this year.. though honestly, I kinda doubt it.

So you gonna buy one??

My recent test-drives: C350, G37s, GTI, A4. I'm looking for a good driving machine around $40k... and Evo is #1 on my list so far.. No, no IS350.. If I don't come out panting after the test-drive, the car isn't for me. simple.. now if i can find a way to lie to my wife that it isn't really a rocket in disguise.......

evo X is way more fun to drive and looks are much better. If an auto enthusiast, this car is a must have. Im glad I got one. Traded my S2k for it. Hasn't looked back since. Just being able to sit 5 adults, great power and potential, handling, cant get any better than that. Also got a great deal at SCM.

but I can still select music from steering right? I was so mesmerized by its driving dynamic that I forgot to ask about the details on the ipod operation. If I do get the nav, most likely I will, then I don't have to worry about hooking it up.

Just food for thought: This 4B11T engine was co-engineered by Hyundai and Mitsu... if i'm not mistaken (as i havent looked under the hood of one yet) the 2.0T Hyundai Genesis Coupe has the same engine with a smaller turbo. So no, this car isnt JUST made by mitsu. the rest of the car i think is though =)

suddenly I was sent back in time to 1989 when one of my dad's friend, an engineer for Mitsu, was working with Hyundai group to setup engines for their cars and other machines such as elevators and heavy machinery.. He used to tell me Hyundai is 90% mitsu.

I'm pretty sure all 3 of the current Evo X stereos (stock, Rockford Fosgate & RF navigation) only have the plain-jane stereo RCA audio inputs, and no other iPod input for control. The only thing you can control from the steering wheel buttons is the volume, source and next/previous track (or radio station) -- but, the next/previous buttons only control CD tracks or MP3 tracks that are burned on CD (or stored on the navi's HDD). Also, I think the internal HDD can only store MP3s that the unit rips itself from inserted CDs (ie, no simple copy over of any MP3s already stored on a CD). Think I got all the details on that right.. somebody please correct me if I'm wrong about anything.

All-in-all, they're decent stereos.. but feature-wise, they're several years behind most aftermarket receivers, and many of the stock receivers found in other similarly priced vehicles. Personally, I probably would've bought the factory navi if Mitsu would've bothered to at least stick a cheap USB port for a flash drive in the dang thing. Instead I'm gonna be spending my money on an Alpine navi or maybe a carputer.. or possibly their FUSE system, if it happens to be reasonably priced.

The Mitsubishi 4B1 engine is a range of all-alloy straight-4 engines built at Mitsubishi's Japanese "World Engine" powertrain plant in Shiga on the basis of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA).[1][2][3] Although the basic designs of the various engines are the same, their exact specifications are individually tailored for each partner (Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai). The cylinder block and other basic structural parts of the engine were jointly developed by the GEMA companies, but the intake and exhaust manifolds, the cylinder head’s intake and exhaust ports, and other elements related to engine tuning were independently developed by Mitsubishi.[1]

The Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance LLC, or GEMA, is a manufacturing arm of Global Engine Alliance LLC, which was a joint venture of Chrysler, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai Motor Company for developing a line of shared engines. In September 2009, Chrysler bought out the shares of Mitsubishi and Hyundai after a 5-year run of allied research and development.

Wrong, the Genesis coupe engine only uses a TURBO designed by Mitsubishi. While the engines were jointly engineered, the engine in a Genesis is different and called the THETA II engine, while the evo's different.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Theta_engine
The Theta engine is turbocharged for use in the Genesis Coupe. In this form it produces 210 hp (213 PS) @ 6,000rpm on 87 octane gasoline, and 223 hp (226 PS) on 93. Torque remains the same at 223 lb·ft (302 N·m) @ 2000rpm. The Theta block used is very similar to the Mitsubishi Evolution X 4B11T, but the two engines are not identical. The Theta block is built with some lower quality components to keep the cost down. Some areas of note are the pistons, rods, and the lack of significant webbing on the block.[1]

The turbo used is a Mitsubishi TD04 model. In stock trim this unit pushes a peak of approx. 16-18psi with a sustained 14psi. This value can be changed with a boost controller and tuning.[2]
