Lol, if he had a Mitsu franchise I wouldn't be the least bit surprised! And I'm sure they've already got you flagged in their database, for dealers to be on the look-out for a "steve from st louis" with an aftermarket antenna installed

No Guys, I am not a Mitsu dealer. We are a former Chrysler Jeep store near Hershey, PA that has been at the same location since 1926. Just selling used now and Chrysler settled with us just last month.
Relax everyone, truly just trying to understand these cars better. I have been on SVT Performance and Corvette Forum for years under the same screen name. Also on ebay as well. No secrets here. Actually bought many cars from your fellow members on this site.
Thanks again for all the help.

Yeppers! I actually thought I only had a 36k warranty, started modding at 18k after nothing blew up in that many miles. I'm 2+ years, almost 40k in miles. I figure nothing I did with a TBE actually has caused any failures any more than the basic car. Lovely to drive, but it did take my learning how to manage the torque/afr issues under loads. Training. I love the noise, the economy and the improved spool range/power. I haven't been to a dealer since they stopped sending me complimentary coupons. The 30k work would have pissed me off when I saw THEIR bill.

Its a lovely DD that I can track and still plan on getting me to work on Monday. M3's can kiss my butt, er, I mean my tail. They aren't as fast.

^^ No worries.. we were just joking about how Mitsu corporate and their dealerships tend to void customers warranties for having various aftermarket parts installed on their cars. Like maybe.. "I went into so-and-so dealership today to have them fix my skipping CD player, and they told me my HKS axel-back exhaust was catastrophic vibrations that lead to a failure of the CD player's read mechanism.. and now my drivetrain warranty is void." ..lol

Dean, sorry I did not see your question before now.

Most all are modular, there are a few that aren't. The best bet is to try to take a pic of the test pipe and we could help you figure out which system it is. There are several vendors on this site that sell a modulat 3" cat pipe that would be flanged properly and would bolt up to a 3" exhaust. Email me if I can be of further assistance to you.

Thanks.

Seth

Thanks! One of our fellow Chysler Jeep stores that got closed, located in York, PA, not far from Chad's place (CBRD), is also a Mitsu dealer, told me that Mitsi is absolutely ridiculous about warranty coverage. If there is so much as a CAI on the car, they will void the warranty.
I have a much better understanding of the "test pipe" saga. Thank You.

Thanks Seth! Good to hear from you. I hope all is well. I am clear on the deal with the "test pipe" now. I have been trying buy only vehicles with catted exhausts but this opens up more possibilities. Have a great one Seth and chat with you soon.

Why do you need a cat for inspection in PA? Do they use ODBII + a visual inspection? If ODBII isn't throwing a CEL your going to get a sticker, at least in MA.
If it is because of sound just use a resonated test pipe, its cheaper. I'm pretty sure PA is like MA. I've seen plenty of STi's and EVOs on dealer lots with test pipes.
If the buyer doesn't ask for a cat (I do) the car gets sold catless and with a valid sticker.

He has people from all over the country that buy cars. He doesn't advertise on here or sell on here, just buys from here.

But to answer your question, warranty is one factor, but another is that a test pipe won't pass in many states. Here, they scan the car, but they also put a mirror under the car to look for a cat. If you have a test pipe, its insta-fail. He probably just wants the cars to be emissions friendly in 50 states.

As a dealer, we have to do a visual and if there is no cat, it fails. We can't afford to mess with our Inspection license or get on the bad side of the State.
