Innovate LC-1 review and customer service
Innovate LC-1 review and customer service
It's been a while since I have REinstalled my LC-1 so I thought while I had some time that I would give my review.
As far as the product, now that it actually works, i'm pretty satisfied with it... I would go with AEM if I had to do it over however.
I purchased the LC-1, got it in the mail a few days later and started pulling carpet up, soldering wires, reading and then re-reading again. The manual is just ok, it's not great and isn't top notch in ease with the way they describe installation. Read it all so you don't have to solder and then resolder again as they make it so you think that is all of the wires, and then throw another one in there that you have to put into the mix so you have to pull your previous work apart to add another wire. It could be said that part is my own fault, and if so then fine.
Once I finally did get it installed, I had all sorts of trouble with it, it NEVER read correctly from the first time it was hooked up, in the 2-3 days I had it in the car I had to constantly recalibrate it, only to have it go back out of calibration a few hours later, or at the next start up. I called innovate and got I think the 1 guy that works there and maybe he's on here. He wasn't especially friendly... just sort of monotone the whole time. He asked me to try the phone jack wires and twist them because sometimes they don't seat correctly... well why the hell would you continue to make the product that way instead of correcting it if other's have already had this issue? Finally I called the guy I got it from, who WAS helpful and he got me to call them back and set-up shipping the item back. I actually asked Innovate first for a refund, but they said "they don't do that" I mean after all it's only MY money right? I had to remove ALLLLL of the wiring, I packaged everything back nicely, using the same ties they gave me, and ship it back which cost me 10-12.00 on top of what I had already paid for the unit, I felt like this was ok as if they found an issue, maybe they would send me a refund for the shipping right? WRONG...
I get the box back I guess a week and a half or 2 weeks later, so the turn around time was decent, I open it up expecting to find a new unit... did I get it? Nope, I got a new gauge, the wires that needed to be resoldered were all left just as I had sent them, so some of them were a bit short from before . All of that trouble and they couldn't just send me a new unit... I personally felt like that wasn't to cool, but hey, not everyone thinks that way. So I again go pulling the carpet up, running wires, soldering and connecting AGAIN all of this same stuff as before. This time the unit does actually work, so I am relieved.
Overall, as I said, the unit itself has been pretty trouble free this time, but I felt like I had to go through more than I should have, and that Innovate should have gone above and beyond with helping me with THEIR faulty unit.
As I said before though, I would recommend bypassing them if you are in the market and going with another brand. I will if I ever need another WB02!

I don't know why so many people claim Innovate to be so good. I mean, so many customers have problems with their stuff. I know I did with the calibration. AEM just works out of the box. If I'm ever in the market again for a WB, its definitely not going to be Innovate unless they step up their game. And for god sakes, include a DB2 to USB connector already!!!!!!! Or just get rid of the DB2 altogether.
I agree with everything you guys said. I have one on my SRT-4. Was a PITA to get mine working properly, then the O2 Sensor went bad like 2 weeks later. Which required a lot pissing around until they figured out it was a bad O2. I then had to wait on a replacement.
Once the issues were ironed out it worked fine and has been working fine since.
On my EVO X I went with the AEM EUGO.
The display is not lightning fast like the LC1. However it works like a charm on first hookup, no free air calibration, no hassles.

I guess I've been lucky...I've had the XD-16/LC-1 installed for almost 6 months and had no issues at all. Calibrated correctly the first time and has not had to be recalibrated yet. I was very careful with the grounding when it was installed, b/c I had read several places that they are very sensitive to ground offsets.
