Guys, read the thread before posting. This is NOT a comparison thread. The OP currently owns a TSX and is considering moving to the Evo X. Totally normal for someone to switch from one car to the next. Get over it.

To the OP, as long as you can handle the drop in creature comforts, luxury and quietness, you'll be fine. The Evo X is not fuel efficient especially compared to a TSX, so that would be something to consider. Outside of the practical things, the Evo is hands-down the better performance vehicle in every aspect compared to the TSX. Maintenance on the Evo X will be higher simply because the intervals are shorter for scheduled maintenance and their are more things that need replacing sooner (tires will last about 12-15k miles before needing replaces, brake pads won't last as long as your TSX, etc, etc). But, if you can do some of these things yourself, you can walk away doing an oil change for $30 (5QT jug of Mobil1 at Walmart for $25 and oil filter from dealer for $5).

Get the Evo X and join the family! I see you're in Canada. You'll more easily find MR's with sunroofs than ones without!

 

My dealer charges $50 for an Evo oil change (Mobil 1) and doesn't ask you to look after his servers.

 

That's a big 10-4.

I've been getting 5 qts of regular Mobil 1 5w30 with a Mobil 1 oil filter (M1-104) for like $25, $30 for extended, when it goes on sale (I buy like 3 oil changes worth at a time when it does).

$0 labor of course because I change the oil myself. Stupid easy on an Evo...especially when you have the right ramps.

 

Yep, and he isn't kidding when he says "stupid easy"...there are DIY threads on here that are perfect for a novice that will guide you through it if you aren't exactly sure what you're doing.

thanks for the input everyone.. to the person who said that since i dont do my own oil changes means i shouldnt be able to even sit in the evo.. are you serious? I'm not even going there......

i've always wanted to look after my own vehicles but i just never have the time with work and what not... also not having a garage, currently living in a condo and just recently bought a house so now i do... and i want to learn the simple maintenance tasks.

yes i understand that the comparison is a huge difference as yes these cars are on different scales..

to the questions about if i love driving.. i absolutely love driving and am looking for a more responsive and powerful car. from the specs and features for the evo i think it would be a great change.. i dont really care for the luxuries all that much to need a 335i although i'd take one if i won it

to those with the evo in canada.. do you guys put a set of winter tires on it for the winter? also any issues with clearance during winter if you have the aero kit on it?

 

My buddy has a TSX, and i think its a nice daily as far as comfort and decent fuel economy. However...the power band is terrible. If you are into rwa performance, while having a pretty nice car visually from the outside (interiors ehh, but i dont care for interior much) i think you would love the Evo, or even the STi (a little more comfy for a DD, my buddy has one).. Like all cars, they need maintenance..which is a little more costly and time consuming, but worth it! Also, for winter, you should invest in a set of winter tires! Let us know what you decide to do!

You do realize 5qts of mobil is ~$25 and a hona oem oil filter is like ~$6.99. These are retail prices. So not much of a hookup there broseph

 

well most places are asking 100$+ for an oil change with synthetic's around where i live... yes i know that 60$ is still expensive but it's a deal in comparison around here..

i love the manual always will... but i'm curious on the SST as getting stuck in traffic sucks.. i think the one thing i'd miss the most would be the lack of the 6th gear going from the tsx to the gsr..

We have both the TL - ShAWD and the Evo X in our family. IMO there is no comparison between the two. TL is a big luxury car which comes with tons of technology and the overall quality is wayy above the X. However, the X is in a whole diff. league when it comes to performance. TL is a better daily driver and is fun to drive if you pick the AWD plus you can't beat Acura's service. The fuel consumption is slightly better on TL, but not by much. Also, the TL has cheaper maintenance the the X. Only money that has been spent on it till now is for the car itself because acura dealers usually offer about 8-10 free oil changes.

I currently own both TSX and EVO ,
ive had the 6spd tsx and 5 spd evo gsr

The gas range on the evo is horrible, and if you go into boost a lot its even worse. 17.x gallons vs 14 gallons. It feels like im always watching my gas tank in the evo.

The seats on the evo feel better than the TSX, The bucket seats just fit your body better.
Every time i get back in the tsx it seems high and lumpy and i try to adjust the seat but its not quite the same.

You could always buy your own oil and filter and take it to the dealer for an oil change for like 20 bucks.

Im not really sure about maintenance on the Evo yet since ive just recently purchased it, but the TSX only things ive ever had to do was oil changes / filters / and gas.

Im not sure if you have a 6spd tsx or auto but going from 6 gears to 5 make sure you are mentally thinking about it while you drive, every now and then ill catch my self thinking about switching to 6th in the EVO and well haha it has no 6th!! It could really use a 6th for highway driving.

Evo makes a lot of noises that sound weird and if you worry about things it will be unavoidable to think something is wrong and you need to have it fix or etc.. TSX will give you peace of mind there.

 

You'll need all-season tires at a minimum and snow tires would be ideal if you get enough snow to warrant winter tires.

The stock Evo tires are summer-only and are absolutely HORRIBLE even in the lightest snow. I live in NC and we got a light dusting of snow this past winter. I still had the OEM summer tires on the car and it was fine to get going from a stop because of the AWD system. BUT, trying to stop was a nightmare. Turning wasn't any fun either. The next day I went to buy a set of all-season tires to cover me for the rest of winter.
