evo vs acura tsx

hey everyone...

i've been reading a lot of posts for the longest time.. when the new lancers/evo came out i almost bought one of the gts' but found an 07 tsx aspec and picked it up instead...

now down the road i'm bored with the tsx.. yes i love the 6 spd mt but it leaves me wanting more.. i've driven some high end cars and its just hasn't been the same since.

i'm looking at the evo mainly because of the styling(something from the lancers back in 08 brought me towards them) the extra HP/TRQ and overall performance gain would be really nice.

i'm just wondering if anyone has gone from a TSX or TL to the evo and what they have found for the pros and cons between the two.

if/when most likely i move to the evo i'll be getting a WW MR. I'm a computer consultant and i spend about 1/4 of my day travelling between clients.... yes mileage/traffic is a pain but i want to make it fun while driving as well

what are the average maintenance costs for the evo.. my avg oil change is around 60$ at the acura dealership (with mobil1, perks of looking after their servers)

thanks!

With all due respect this thread is nuts. I wouldn't even put these cars in the same class. Other than them both being four doors they are completely different cars. Everything is going to be more expensive in the X, not to turn you off to it, but it is a sports car. Just expect your costs to go up a bit, and too be a lot less comfortable than you are in your TSX. Less trunk room harsher ride. Once again they are nothing alike, but with that being said it is so worth the change. The new Evo is amazing to drive, and is just so much darn fun!!!

lol, so random, but yes, I came from a white 07 TSX. Now I have a ww evo x base. All I have to say is that all the conforts of the TSX are gone. I don't miss the power though. The TSX was too sluggish and the primary reason I got rid of it. I don't really care for the comforts as much anymore and I love my Evo. There are some things I wish I did get, which is the SSS package, but they offered a better price for the base.

Also maintenance does go up a bit and if you don't change your oil at the recommended maintenance period, you can feel it. This is also a 4wd, so you have fulids that you wouldn't have in the TSX. I would highly recommend the GSR unless you have to have leather and manual transmission. It's really up to you though.

ya, i'm expecting a big change between the cars.. i know they are completely in different leauges.. just wondering for those who have gone through the change if they wish they didnt..

currently my tsx has been having issues.. i had my clutch plate replaced under warranty at 65,000km's due to the fact the car made a horrible noise when taking off from a stop in 1st... and i havent even hit my next oil change and the clutch is doing the same thing.. so i'm quite irritated with that aspect of the car and the service dept has no idea why it happens.. i understand possibly burning through a clutch after 60,000+km's but not even after 5,000km's.... i treat my car with a fair bit of respect and i don't abuse it at all as I want it to last... but anyway.. the tsx is decent at 205hp/180lb trq from a 4cyl.. I feel that it's still lacking for the car and for myself.. it was good at the time as i upgraded from a 98 EL to the TSX and it's time for another upgrade so basically i'm just doing as much research as i can on the Evo as I'm hoping it will be next in my driveway.

I took a hit on my trade in (TSX) because I wanted an Evo. If its economical, then I would highly recommend it. If I had to do it again, I would IMO. If you get the MR, I think the comforts of the TSX won't be lost much, besides the crappy plastic dash and plastic door bits. I have 3 rattles I can't find.

As far as the clutch, I can't say much about it. I never had a problem with my TSX, but I bought it new and traded it in at 21k miles. Still in like-new condition, even the seats. If you have TSX seats, you know about the ****ty wrinkling you get on the driver side.

I checked out TSX's 3 yrs back when looking for a replacement for my S2k. I had 0 issues with my Honda so I figured on staying in the family because of the reliabilty. I really like those cars, nimble with a top notch interior and good looks. Shame you've had so many problems, that would get me looking elsewhere too.

Your expenses will rise with an Evo, no doubt. Do a search and you'll get an idea.
If you do a lot of driving, replacement tires and fluid changes will happen much quicker than your Acura. Dealers charge a lot for maintenance on these cars so be prepared for $80 oil changes every 3k miles if you don't DIY. My dealer wants $220 to change the trans. fluid! Factory brake pad replacement is stupid expensive too at a dealer. There's plenty of How-tos on the forums and this car is ez to do those tasks however.

Conversely, if you really love driving and test drive an Evo, then anything else will be a compromise in the handling dept. I got the Evo bug in 2003 and finally got mine in 08. But beware, if AWD performance is what you want and you're passionate about driving, you won't stop thinking about an Evo till you scratch the itch and get your own.

I wouldn't get the EVO X unless you really enjoy driving. EVO's are driver's cars... and every morning I have a smile on my face because it makes my commute fun.

But if you're used to the TSX and want a luxurious car... and just like the EVO because of how it LOOKS... I wouldn't bother getting it. The EVO X MR is a pretty refined car... but it's nowhere near as luxurious as a dedicated luxury sports sedan. So it's basically upto your priorities. If you want a car that great to drive... yet still has the practicality of being a 4 door... then yes... get the EVO. If you just want a car that looks good... and you want some sportiness... but don't really have a deep enjoyment for driving... then don't get it.

If you want a car like the TSX but with more performance... why not get something like a BMW335i? BMW335i are still "luxury sedans"... but they have a strong engine and drive well.

Considering you're moving from a semi-luxury brand ( that's what I consider Acura to be), I would suggest the MR. You said you also travel quite a bit during the day. The MR should really give you the best combination of both worlds. Better creature comforts and awesome performance. Get the GSR only if you are super adamant about enjoying rowing through the gears on a MT.

If possible, get a test drive in both and see which one you like better. I'm sure the GSR will be more fun, but try to imagine driving in it day in and day out.

I went from a TL Type-S to the Evo, and never looked back. The TL Type-S just too big and awkward to feel any kind of performance. The transmission was sloppy compared to the Evo. I'm not one to appreciate things like leather, and quite honestly it was a pain in the *** to clean. Oh and the navigation was a complete joke...although I have nothing good to say about the Evo's navigation system. But at least you can throw in a custom deck really easily on the Evo.

Overall, Acura makes crap cars whose quality has greatly declined. I've had less problems with my Evo than I ever had with my TL Type-S.

Well at least Acura replaced your clutch plate...lol, mitsubishi would have told you there wasnt a problem. I owned 2 Acura Legend Coupes, and i loved Acuras service. They even gave u a loaner vehicle for minor things....Mitsubishi will give you a smile and tell you have a nice day, nothing else. I dont know how much Acura has changed but even back then, they had superb customer service. Mitsubishi isn't that great in that dept....if you want to have fun in your car, save on gas mileage, and enjoy some xtra comforts maybe u should look elsewhere. My 95 Legend was loaded, down to the power telescoping wheel...u get power, awd, and performance with the EVO..thats it.

Definitley an odd ball comparison, I personally came from a rsx type-s and I've been happier than a pig in s@&t ever since, but I'm all about performance, I hate leather ever since I burnt some *** crack hairs off with those damn leather seats in the rsx. If you want to have a smile on your face everytime you walk towards/drive your car...get the evo, you'll love it

It's all in you and what your looking for, you say your TSX is starting to get boring that will not happen with the Evo if your looking for performance, at the little expense of the leather and other luxuries, everybody is telling you is worth it.
