Help! 2011 STi or Evo X
^^^^ + 1
youtube top gear evo X vs sti, you're pretty much convinced.
On a serious note, the X has a lot more potential with basic bolt-ons, the STi is more costly and doesn't respond to mods well at all. If you want power, go with the X. If you are not gonna mod, and looking for something more reliable, go with the STi.

LOL 55K miles is an achievement?
I knew someone would post something like this. Of course some will last but many don't. Take a look at the used STI market like I did. It's hard to find one used with an original engine. I assume you have spent enough time at Subaru forums to know that rebuilds are pretty common place with Subarus.

Not many subaru's need 2 be rebuilt unless there above 400-420 whp range. Below that they are very very reliable.
And yes for a big turbo car i think 55,000 miles is a achievement, do you not? Not 2 mention i WOT my car everyday.
I was looking at the new STI and Evo X and I finally decided on...the 2011 WRX hatchback. The X is a great car but the following factors made me go WRX:
#1 - cargo space. It might be roomy for passengers but the Evo X has very little room for "stuff". Hatchback FTW. Plus my fiance has a coupe so we need something with room for large things.
#2 - price. Invoice on a base WRX is under $25k. Factoring in taxes, the WRX is around $6-7k cheaper than the a GSR at the cheapest So Cal Mitsu dealer. STIs are a bit more than that so the WRX is around $8k cheaper than those. And insurance is cheaper for the WRX as well.
#3 - weight. 3200lbs vs 3550 (X) and 3400 (STI).
#4 - 2011MY updates. The gunmetal rims, wider stance, and STI-styling all look pretty good IMO. And the standard instrument cluster has always been extremely well done.
#5 - financing. 2.9% financing for 48 or 63 months. The 0% on Evo's is a 36-month deal which is a min of $27 per $1k financed. So if you finance over $30k, that's a $800+ monthly payment which is ridiculous.
#6 - mpg. Honestly this isn't too big of a deal to me but people are getting 26-28mpg on the highway fresh off the lot. It would be nice to fill up less often than I do now.
Where the WRX loses BIG is power but it's a torque-y SOB that is perfectly suited for street daily driving. Being 350lbs lighter than an X offsets the -30hp (in stock trim of course...modded the X takes the cake).
And I know people are going to offer rebuttals for the above, but these are my personal reasons for making the choice that I did. Reason #1 (the hatchback) was a HUGE factor. And if I had kids that extra cargo room for strollers and crap would come in handy.

Ive own both a 2010 Evo X and a 2010 STI special edition.
STI - more comfortable and hell of a lot more storage space.
Evo - way better handeling, easy to throw the *** end of the car out. Even with the STI Special Editions stiffer suspension then the normal STI, the Evo X still felt more solid.
The only 2 things i hate about the evo X is the fact there not teliscopeing steering wheel. I am 6'6'' and always feel like im reaching for the wheel. and te other being that the rear seats do not fold down
Not i have the same parts TBE and Intake. on both cars and have had both cars tuned by the same tuner.
EVO - 17 HP and almost 30 lbs of torque more than the STI. And the evo just feels so much quicker. Revs faster and spools quicker
However i like the gear ratio much better in the STI the same corners I would downshift to 2nd in the STI I seen to be stuck in the lower RPMs of 3rd gear in the EVO
PS I have a GSR 5 SPD

owned 06 sti and evo x now.
evo x has better : handling, power with few mods, looks.
sti has better: clutch, built quality in and out
not sure about new sti, but the suspension was too soft before.
i heard they improved handling for 2011
and my friend's 08 sti had crack engine block about 15k miles with few bolts on mods. and sadly no warranty for him. if you dont mod your car, you will be fine. but can you?
if you take care of your car well, both cars are very reliable.

^^^ His waranty might not have covered his car because it was modded... but unfortunetly you dont even have 2 mod your evo for mitsubishi not 2 honor there warranty.
Mitsubishi warranty is junk
I notice that everytime im on EvoM i stick up for the subaru and when im on nasioc or others i always stick up for the evo.
(i guess when u own both u can do it)

I have to admit when my motor went on my 09 subie they asked no questions and had a new short block installed and my car back in 4 days.
I also was making too much power for the stock clutch and needed that replaced and they did. They only said that if it happened again the car better come back in stock form or id have to pay for it.
So all in all Subarus warranty has been great. no prob with my Evo yet so keepin my fingers crossed
