Opening Hood Vents??

Asking any of the northern state or midwest state owners. Have you opened up the hood vents (unblock the blacks and remove the scoop shield) and had any ill effects? Rain or snow? I'm thinking of removing them and getting like an AEM intake or one like it so it doesn't let water into the filter from the scoop and then I can take the lid off when at the track or on a nice day or whatever. Just want opinions and experiences. Thanks guys.

Im in KS and we get all the weather. I have the vents removed and an AMS intake. Its nice bc you can leave the top on in the winter and take it off in the summer if you want to "hear" the turbo. I even cut the center metal vent to allow more heat to escape. Sitting at a stop light, it just pours out the heat

I didn't think that AMS had an induction box? That's what I was thinking about doing. I'd like an ARC but don't want to spend the money, so AEM is the only other one I know of with a good induction box. Any others anybody else knows of? More experiences?

I have the Rexpeed vents and I can run it through the car wash with an AMS intake...no ill effects. You will get water on your radiator fan and hoses but that's about it.

Thanks for the info! The vent on driver's side misses the intake then? Do you have the scoop opened up too?

i have no hood vents since 2008... And my car see snow rain dust gravel dirt.
No issues. visibly you can see the hood breaths better, if you stand still.
when you goes who knows? old evos used to cut wholes on the hood for better cooling so i guess its working just fine . LOL

As you can see the vents are very functional now. Sitting at stoplights, the heat just pours out. Also took of pic of the center vent that i dremmeled out to allow more cool air in and hot air out. Tried to get a pic from above to show the filter is no where close to getting wet during rain/car washes. Also, very easy to replace if your worried about winter and keeping heat in.

FYI my intake (AEM) box is removed b/c i am taking the clutch pill out tomm.

Thanks,

Awesome!! Thanks guys, definitely helps what I'm thinking. Do you think it would be any different if you completely removed the scoop shield? I'm not completely sure of the purpose of the under hood part of it. I think I will do that this week/weekend.

Also I've heard about the clutch pill removal, but does it make a noticeable difference? How is it removed?

I wouldnt, i think it helps support the scoop and keep enough heat away from melting stuff...??
