Worried about new Evo

My dealership is getting my brand new SE from another dealership, and they are driving it here, which is about 200 miles. Should I be worried about the engine break-in if they're driving it on the highway the whole time? I've read that for the first 600 miles or so you should stay away from prolonged highway driving, especially if thats the first 200 miles being put on the car

my MR was swapped from another dealer aswell that was about 180 miles away. i got the car with like 190 miles on it so i feel where your coming from.

i work at a dealership for 6 years now and i KNOW that EVERYONE beats on the nice cars at a dealership and im sure this dealer will too.

will it have any "ill" effects on your car? probably not but they will beat on it espically since most of the time the people doing the swap are usually a young valet driver. i wouldnt stress it though, just baby her when you get it and you should be ok

also highway driving is ALOT LESS abusive then regular city driving, so all highway is actually a good thing.

Well aparantly the driver is a 69 year old retiree, so I think he won't be drag racing it I'm just worried about the number of miles being put on it on the highway, and scratches from that driving of course

You'll be fine. He's actually doing some of the break-in for you

LOL you never know man the EVO brings out the racer in everyone.

as far as scratches go though, make sure you do a real good walk around the car before you leave the dealership. if you see any scratches on the car let the sales mgr know asap. if you go home and notice a scratch its alot harded to get them to pay to fix.

^+1, you should try to bargain them down, they are selling you a new evo with high mileage no matter which way you look at it

Mine had to come 500 miles... I know it sounds crazy... they had an old guy that drove mine. I expressed my concerns to the dealer but they assured me they have used this guy for awhile just for these situations. Acutally met the dude. He says that it is actually his retirement job. There are a lot of dealers that use him to drive all their nice cars that they don't trust to the "young" guys to not abuse.

+1

The worst thing for a new engine is the highway, you need to vary the rpm and engine load espically for the first 200 miles. It will help for sure that whoever is driving it will be enjoying themselves the whole time lol.

I picked my X up in NJ with 2 miles on it and drove it to upstate NY where I live. That was a few hundred miles of highway driving on a brand new motor and I've never had an problems with the car. I think you'll be fine.

Nothing to worry about. My dealer had to do the same thing so I got it with 243 miles (Oklahoma City to Dallas); I did get window tint and wheel locks in exchange for the miles though.
