GSR or MR
GSR or MR
So im in the market for a new evo, i was thinking of buying a gsr becasue i want to mod it around 400hp and hit up some track days. But I hate the 5spd. I used to have a 8 gsr and i always the 5th gear was too long and the car would fall on its face, and from what i see the x has even shorter gears with a similar 5th. Anyways i was turned off of the MR because of the reliability of the SST but then I saw this.

SSP is the future of the MR. they're surpassing themselves all the time with new standards and soon the MR will be able to hold as much power as the GSR, but be much quicker at shifting. I think the MR should be shipped stock with a tranny cooler, but it's not much to get one at all from SSP. Very sexy indeed
For the record, the SST (MR, SE and Ralliarts) comes with a stock tranny cooler. It's behind the left bumper vent.
It does need more efficient flow though (one reason I got rid of my foglights).
As it is, you can make 400whp on a factory SST without any mods. It helps to have an aftermarket tranny cooler for better cooling, and you definitely need to make some adjustments to the ECU to compensate for the SST.
It's a great transmission, it's very strong. The only weakness really is the electronics. So far, very very few MR SST transmissions have died. If you like the SST I say go for it.
The GSR is great too, it really depends what you prefer. Supposedly there are a few notchy shift points in the factory 5-speed, something you simply won't get in the SST. I believe these can be fixed by shep and an aftermarket master cylinder though.

Very true i hate 5 spd gearboxes in general with every car having 6 gears or more i think its a must, you just get better gear ratio for low end and top end. I think the gearing in my 8 is what prevented my top end, not the areo or the power. I raced a lot of cars that had the same power or less and my car would out run them until i shifted into 5th. Anyways i really like the dual clutch transmission just didnt know if it would hold up for me or not. But I guess MR for me it is.
