The Evo X isn't built for open air bovs even when tuned.
You have to lower the boost to avoid those spikes, and when you do you only loose power for the benefit of the sound.

STOCK BOV+ GOOD TUNE= Best results.
the evo x doesnt use a bov. it uses a diverter. the benefit of using an aftermarket diverter or bov is that the do not leak under high boost. it allows you to get up to peak boost and hold it there longer. stock boost is around 14 psi. if you're gonna go higher boost, then go aftermarket.

if you like the bov sound, there are a few out there that makes adjustable bov. from full recirc to full vta.

i just bought a GFB BOV and tested full VTA - the sound is awesome and i didnt experience stalling, back firing or surging. i also tested full recirc and it sounds like stock.

If it's the sound you're after then putting any aftermarket intake in will make it louder than some aftermarket ones with the stock DV. Not to mention that this will also GREATLY increase spool sound.

Swap it to an APS one and you will change your opinion very quickly, specially at 30 psi.

ok i changed my mind. I originally wanted a bov but after hearing intake vids, im sold on just getting an intake. The spool and sound it makes is worth it.

If you want sound make sure not to get an enclosed intake such as the AEM

BOV valve change is only necessary, if you are pushing over 26-27 psi. Above that the OEM diverter is not working reliable. Under that pressure level, the metal oem diverter is the best you can have.

Are there substantial drawbacks of under 26-27 psi and using an after market BOV?

Go with go fast bits. I own one and love it. You can adjust everything from sound to recirc etc. I have mine set to 80/20. Holds boost like a champ. I wrote a review under the ralliart section if you would like more info and a few sound clips while driving.

This is the bov that you need. You'll get the sound and you won't lose the performance.

JDM Type-R ALUMINUM Turbo BOV

You can order it here -> http://www.zerotek.net/tusohoonnave.html

Spinners, racing stripes and "shift, psssst"

@ mlonker and rongdoer. Some people like the sound, it is all a matter of preference. I personally like the sound, and so do alot of other people. Save your childish sarcasm for the "kids" section. If you don't have anything useful to say, don't waste my time or anyone else's. I believe you do use a friend in the passenger seat of your 92 honda civic with 90 hp and a 5" fart can making bov sounds!
As for anyone else who has been following this thread, i used my ap to log my boost during some hard driving, and I hit 29 psi at one point on the stock bov(aka diverter valve). So far, no problems.

Tial bov is way better than stock for my application. It does flutter a bit in vaccuum and under 10lbs tho. But over 30 its great and sounds like a supra.

I bought a forge dv and have a injen intake. I havent drove the car yet but people have told me I will be able to hear it well. I would stick with stock until you want a lot of boost, then get a good dv.
