as far as what you need there are several threads about that but quickly explained: higher capacity injectors, fuel pump, fuel sock filter, e85 safe in-tank lines, and e85 safe underhood fuel line (the one that feeds the fuel rail) with inline fuel filter. (blaqops sells a "kit" for it if you don't want to piece one together. it's a little pricey but the fuel pump adapter for the fuel pump housing really makes it worth it.). and of course a base tune to get yourself to a tuner for a custom tune. (i use a cobb accessport to switch back and forth with tunes. they also have an e85 base tune).

injectors, a tune and I'm set for e85? I don't think I need the cobb access port.. there's no reason why I can think of to switch between a custom tune and something on the access port.

I'm don't know where you live, but some places switch to e70 in the winter so you may want two maps for that reason. Here's some good reading https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...iscussion.html

That's why I laugh at the threads complaining about the stock car's motor/tune. There's not a lot Mitsu can do and keep the car legal.

Sounds like a good plan. The BlaqOPs kits cost a few bucks but it's quality stuff. Most of the DIY guys end up using hose or parts that will get eaten up by the ethanol.

I've been running E85 in mine almost since it was new. Only issues that I've had was bad E85. Some stations will re-use tanks that previously had another fuel in them and then you can end up with black sludge in your fuel filter or on your injector tips. If you have a cleanable filter then be sure to check it every few months.

E85 for almost 4yrs on my DD and I'll NEVER run anything else once experiencing the power potential. It's made in the USA too!

I wasn't saying the OP needed an accessport. I was just saying I bought it as a noob and it is what I use to switch tunes. It's proven quite convenient for what I need it for.

Having the ability to switch between E85 and pump has another benefit. We recommend that you run a tank of pump through your car every couple of months (5-7 fill ups) to keep the system clean of any deposits/gunk E85 can leave behind. From what I've read the build up seems to be related more to the fuel itself based on location/station than anything else. Some have reported build up rather quickly (1-3 months) and some have been running the stuff for over a year and no build up.

Just a point of caution and something that can help you out in the long-run if made a routine.

Having the AP sounds handy.

I thought there was a better way to go? My car won't arrive for another 6 weeks. I'm trying to understand what my options are...

If I get a custom tune from a speedshop can't I have them make several tunes,, e87 e70 and 91 octane? Then buy a tractrix cable and store everything in my laptop?

TephraMOD for the X can switch between pump and E85 tunes on stock ECU. No need for a $600 pager.

Yup. Life is a lot easier if you get the Tactrix. Your tuner could also change little things and just email you a ROM, if needed.

tactrix is the better way to go today. with tephra roms out, it's awesome

i don't know what it is with X owning members on here (the ones that have had the car longer than 3 days and are giving advice). did i not say the OP doesn't need an AP? it's something i stuck with.

at least one of you two above should remember when our only options were the friggin zchip or accessport! there weren't even many tuners out there even tuning X's at one point. it's proven handy and sits in my glovebox so i never have to worry switching maps.

It has a lot of benefits for the higher hp guys but it is a lot of work. You definitely have to learn to do your own tuning other wise it will be a headache bugging /paying people to tune.

Most of us only have one E85 tune. If your tune is a touch conservative then you'll be fine when it goes from E70-E85-E70. If you insist on 100% of the available power then you'll have to pay for it.
