Any reason not to use e85?

Got a new car coming soon. Looking at build options. Is there any reasons not to use e85? I have an e85 station that's on the way to work. As far as I can see there's no reason not to do it... What am I missing? If this was such a good idea everybody would be running e85, right?

there's no con really other than availability which looks like you have under control.

i've been running for about 8 months or so now and no problems. i actually prefer it for the added power, smell and just being awesome.

hope that helps.

gas mileage is okay?... not that I really care about mileage in an evo, but I was reading that e85 has lower mpg.

what's your set-up? After searching I came up: swap to bigger injectors, fuel pump walbro okay, and tune.. that's it?

with regular driving gas mileage is slightly lower. wot and spirited driving, it goes even quicker. the only big trips i need to worry about are to the jersey shore which is about 120ish miles one way....i have to bring 5-10 gallons with me. if you need to take big trips just flash to a 93 tune (something else that you should consider getting).

as far as what you need there are several threads about that but quickly explained: higher capacity injectors, fuel pump, fuel sock filter, e85 safe in-tank lines, and e85 safe underhood fuel line (the one that feeds the fuel rail) with inline fuel filter. (blaqops sells a "kit" for it if you don't want to piece one together. it's a little pricey but the fuel pump adapter for the fuel pump housing really makes it worth it.). and of course a base tune to get yourself to a tuner for a custom tune. (i use a cobb accessport to switch back and forth with tunes. they also have an e85 base tune).

Isn't it a federal offense to do the conversion yourself? I thought I read that on the e85 website. Something about that e85 has to be a factory option and converting yourself is illegal. I doubt that this is strictly enforced however.

They're only illegal if you get caught

I didn't to the conversion myself--the tuner and shop did ! Seriously. . . federal offense for converting your car to run cleaner=money grubbing scam to buy a "smog legal" conversion kit--oh by the way the feds would probably have their hand in that cookie jar. On top of that, we're helping the economy by buying an American made product. You're right though. Police could care less if your evo is filling up on e85.
