New owner! With a question.

I'm the new owner of a 08 GG X. It's lowered by springs (not sure which ones) has an intake in it. SSS, Aero, and Navi. Had to turn in my 8 though =(. Anyways, of course after I buy it I notice only some times under acceleration between 3k+ to redline it'll drop by a few hundred RPMs after a little bit. For example 3k-4k, it'll reach 4k then it'll go back down to 3.8k and then keep accelerating. I know the 08s had some issues with the ECU and a lot of flashes were given by the dealer. Is this the flash, is this normal, or is the clutch slipping?

I've never heard of that to be honest. It won't hurt to take it back for the latest and greatest ECU update.

Have you tried going to the bottom of 4th and going WOT? If your rpms shoot up all the sudden and come back down before accelerating than it's most likely your clutch.

clutch slippin is easy to notice, try going at wot in any gear and if the rpm is jumping but the car is not moving then the clutch is done...didnt you check the car before buying it???

easiest way to check the clutch...

Drive around a bit to warm up the car and clutch. Put the car in 5th at about 35 to 40mph. Floor it. Obviously you are in too high of a gear, but you'll be able to tell if the clutch is bad because the RPMs will jump really fast.

I did. I drove around and put it in WOT in 3rd and it didn't do it. Kind of weird. It didn't do until I left and had bought it.

I will check a few of these steps. Thanks guys.

Could be input shaft seal leak. If it leaks it will make your clutch slip. Happened to me and was replaced under warranty.

probably not what you are describing but when i had my X new it had a power dip around 4-5krpm. or something like that, cant remember.

it would pull hard to 4krpm then lose momentum till 5k and starts pulling again.

a tune fixed that for me though

There's a TSB for the 2008 for intermittent high idle miss. It should be covered under the 5/60 warranty according to my stealership.

Just got a call from them. They said it's the clutch that just started going. They did offer to cover half the cost of the service and parts though.

Depending how much half the cost is, it might be better to just take it to a shop and get a better clutch installed.
