its never too soon.... i did a 50 mile motor break in just to seal the piston rings. changed oil on car at 200 miles, and did drop in, catback, UICP within the first 400 miles.

im not 30,000 miles strong with just regular oil changes. stock clutch

600 miles is more than enough time for break in. Go beat the **** out of it.

For reasons of warranty piece of mind, and not wanting to redo the OEM's if I had issues, I waited til 16,000 to begin, 1 year to the day almost. The CBE is the only mod allowed without voiding warranty really, unless your drop-in is also a dry filter. My original dealer's service writer nicely and quietly warned me that they could and would void anything warranty related to the K&N oil that could cause maf issues that could then cascade to other failures, at least from a blame game.

At 47,000k now, untuned, poppin, flutterin' and rev holdin'. And beating the tar out of cars 2-3x as expensive on the road course. I'm thinking next year I have a trip to Chi-town in my future and visit the doods at AMS.

Modding new x

Alot of people start modding shortly after break-in. My 2010 evo x gsr had approx. 1000 kms when I got my mods and tune. I am at about 7000 kms now and no issues yet. I am also running 29 psi on stock turbo. My mods are: Invidia dp, non-resonated tp, Q-300 dual tip exhaust, and k&n drop-in with custom tune on 94 oct. I was very disappointed when I first got my car, performance wise! I think I just expected too much because people talked about them like they are a god. However, after spending about $3000 (canadian), on parts and tune, I am very happy. It's like a totally different animal now. Just the mods I stated above I got 377 awtq @ 3250 rpms, 305 awhp @ about 6500 rpms. You could probably get the same mods and set-up in the states for half that price I paid. We get raped up here for everything we buy! Honestly, if you just do a full turboback and intake or drop-in and a custom tune, you will not only like your car, you will love it. I would ask your tuner to crank up the boost to at least 28 psi. The torque when the turbo spools is insane! It throws you back and puts a huge smile on your face every time you mash that right pedal. You won't be disappointed. The best $3000 I ever spent! Good luck.

Talking Modding new x

Just forgot to mention the Cobb Accessport was included in the price I paid for my complete set-up, including tune and dyno time.

I have 41,000 miles on my X now...even though i want to mod her sooooo bad, ive patiently waited till i hit 60,000 and the warranty is up. I just spent my money on the radio and nav....currently looking to buy some exterior mods tint, carbon fiber etc this summer to keep the engine mod bug away from me. If you have the $$$ to fix your car just in case something goes wrong with your modifications, go for it. But i dont have money to throw out the window like that..

i look at it this way, i would rather know my car stock first before making her into a super car...she still puts a smile on my face stock, so imagine when i finally put the real mods on her next year : ) .

don't know how because I'm already bored of how slow stock Evo X's are from just test driving them with customers at work lol

I modded my RA at 3k miles haha

That's pretty sweet though. I bet the only bad thing about having the after market parts waiting at the house before you get the Evo is the anticipation. I'm saving up to get an Evo in a few months and it seems like the days are going by slower and slower.
