How soon is too soon... to mod?
The best break in way is to let the car warm up fully and then drive it hard, it helps seat the pistons better.
If I got a brand new car, this is what I would do to help guard against blowby.

Right when i was getting bored of her being stock, we got hit with all those east coast blizzards. Driving past stuck cars in inches of snow put a big grin on my face. It made me appreciate the seasonal qualities of my car. I got more stares from the people that were stuck in the snow. I bet they didnt even know what i was driving...
i know the feeling LOL
Go for it. Based on my experience with modding cars to date I've come to this game plan:
When I get confirmation when my X will be in, I plan to blow my $2500 on mods for it, and hope they get to my house the same time I pull my new Evo home. Well, $2470, since I'll have to have a case of beer there too... :P
The next day after sleeping off the booze, I'll have my personal day off from work to break it in.
