On the Hunt for an EVO
On the Hunt for an EVO
So guys, I've been on the hunt for an EVO (or STI) for 30k OTD. I haven't driven an STI yet, but I must tell you, the test drive of the EVO absolutely blew my socks off!! I was in LOVE. Anyone know how the STI will compare? Today, I went to test drive this one: http://www.arenamotorgroup.com/web/v...imore-Maryland The car drove amazing, dealer was only willing to give me 500 off the listed price. The car had an intake, a boost gauge (aftermarket), and you could tell there was some modding done. It also had a body kit. I turned it down because I figured it was probably abused. Then there is this one, dealer is willing to take 1200 off the price! http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national And lastly, this one has a little mileage, and this is my first mitsubishi so I don't know how well they hold up. But what do you guys think? http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national Last bit of info, I have 140k miles on a stock clutch (2005 Acura RSX Type S). What can I expect out of an EVO X?
I never owned an STI but test drove quite a few of em when I was looking for an EVO. From what ive observed is that the STI's turbo doesnt take as much to kick in compared to the evo. The evo's comfort, looks and the handling for me was a lot better than the STI. Both are amazing cars but the evo has a slight better handle when it comes to handling.
As for long term for the mitsu cars, just as any other car out there... if you take care of her, she will take care of you. Keep an eye out for factory recalls (which are always free) and do the oil change etc, basically take care of it and you will be just fine. I havent had any problems with the car. You also gotta keep in mind that the car is not a regular car, its a performance vehicle which only makes you take care of her more than you would - lets say an accord.

The only sti I would drive over the evo x was the old "hawk eye" sti. Since then the car has gotten softer with less track potential unless you are looking at a 2011 sedan "sti". (where they are fixing the direction they have gone in the last few years)
I came over from the subaru camp, sold my sti and bought a 2010 gsr. Subaru just cant compete if your looking for an 08 or 09....

only Impreza i've ever liked was about 10-11 years ago (esp in blue/gold). then they started making them with ugly front lights (i'm not even gonna comment the whole hatchback design for the current model) and i can't have that
the X is a beauty AND a beast

I'm set on an EVO X, you guys convinced me. I would like to know, though, more about the clutch! Even with moderate driving, I'm looking at only 20-30k miles out of it? How much do they cost to replace?

you can get more than 20-30k out of a stock clutch but you can also get less. The most i've heard was 80k miles on a stock clutch most seem to go out about 40-50kish. For an act hdss installed you're usually looking at about $1500.
I bought my Evo used, so I have no idea how the other driver handled the car. My EVO is also stock other than Accessport with Stage 2 LWG tune. If you don't beat on it, it should easily last 50k+.
My 08 Evo X GSR has 52k on the clock and the clutch still grabs like new. Never tracked which I'm sure helps with clutch life. It only takes a couple of launches to make you need to replace the stock clutch. It just cannot handle that kind of abuse.

Out of all the evos you have checked out I ould choose the first one. First of all that is not a bodykit its an aero package from the factory. Because it has a boost gauge, exhuast and intake doesnt mean the car has been abused. Only you test driving it will show if the car/clutch has been abused. Evryone freaks out about the clutch, if you know hoe to drive the clutch will last PERIOD. If you dont like automatic then MR should be ruled out since it is auto. The last car with 40k miles is also a pretty good deal, and 40k miles is faaaar from too many miles. I always stay awy from dealers because they OVERPRICE cars for abvious reasons, to make money. Buy from a private owner , you will be able to save more.
I don't think it was the factory kit, it had stickers on side skirts, front bumper and rear Perrir or something... Anyways, thanks for the advice, I baby all clutches, I just don't want one that someone else didn't take care of.
okay one more time IT IS NOT A BODYKIT its an aero kit from factory, its an option package. Perrin makes intakes, exhaust parts for evos, it seems like the car has a perrin intake (the blue cone filter). So previous owner got the stickers with the part and put them in random places.
