Sunroof on 2008 Evo

ok first of all I know people will probably flame right away...This is a performance car why would you wanna do cut the aluminum roof and make it loose ridgidity and this is not by SPEC..bla bla bla

I called around shops here and they said that they dont see a probelm and that they isntalled sunroofs on aluminum roofs.

I just would like to ask has anyone done it to their evo?

Thanks

I haven't heard of it, but I wouldn't do it. Simply because the roof is aluminum and probably can't support a heavy window/motor/brakets. Also, I've had sunroofs before in my other two cars... completely useless. Only thing they are good for is cleaning your interior when you forget to close them before it rains.

Impossible to do on the 2008-2010 evo GSR, the placement of the support brace on the aluminum roof is in the wrong place. The 2010 Evo MR Touring has a sunroof stock but if you look at it you can see they sit way back from where a sunroof usually is, becuase they had to move the support brace. you can get one stock on a 2011 Evo that has the SL pakage (sunroof and leather). I know this because I sell evos.

I have a feeling this is true because all the EVO X's with sunroofs give up the aluminum roof for a steel one.

How much would is cost to trade up to a GSR with a sunroof vs. actually putting in a sunroof in your current car and re-inforcing it properly?

I would not put an aftermarket sunroof also. If you want a sunroof, trade in your car for the MR touring or get the 2011 Evo.

If someone wants a sunroof so bad, you can replace the entire roof of the car with clear plexi-glass. This is ugly IMO and stupid. If I were to have lots of money and spare time in my hands, I'd rather convert the entire (or partial) roof into solar panels that will trickle charge the car battery.

Don't ever put in an aftermarket sun roof, I have yet to see one done that doesn't leak or look like complete ****. Save yourself a huge headache and don't waste your money

No one is gonna flame you about having a performance car with a sunroof, if they do just turn your head away and down bother with them. I love my sunroof and it was a huge deal when i was deciding between mr and mr t. Mr T still performs just as mr or gsr... the sunroof doesnt effect anything unless of course you have it open and your windows down lol. The only problem you might have which i dont even need to type since:

this right here says it all. I love it when people type things that is actually not BS and good info. I looked into getting an 08 mr before 10 but adding leather with heated seats and sunroof was too much of a hassle and money, i just grabed the 10 mr t. Do a price check around you man and if dont have any payments on the GSR right now see if you can switch to an 11 gsr with SL. As we are in the year 2011 you might find a badass deal for a it.
