I got my fully loaded '11 gsr for $37,500. If you shop around a little I'm sure you can get a pretty good deal. My advice is don't settle, when you are spending $30k+ on a car you should get what you want.

I'm sure you could get a good price if you buy it from Sam Smash from SCM. But, rather than getting an aftermarket sunroof, have you thought about just getting the base '11 Evo x and getting an aftermarket head unit that has navigation?

I had one in my VIII when I bought it. Webasto. It never leaked, looked very clean, but rattled.

I don't recommend aftermarket sunroofs. If you want it bad enough, you gotta get a newer car. BTW, factory NAV isn't great, you can get an aftermarket solution for much much cheaper that does a much better job.

IMO, It depends on if you want to take the gamble on all or nothing. The "nothing" sunroof is not a buyer's problem if your a buyer that enjoys driving more than sun-bathing/touring/cruising. I had a sunroof for many many years in my Camry that the Evo replaced. I really hated the choice to buy a 08 MR with the softer ride and more expensive TOC SST tranny. So I went with NOT gambling, bought the 08 GSR that I felt had promise to please me and keep a smile plastered on my face.

After 49000 miles I am finding I am correct. I don't miss the sunroof, I'm too busy enjoying the sound of the turbo, BOV, intake, WHOOSH. If you want to let your wife/GF drive the car more, sure, it's just your money going down the drain, nothing new for the sake of Love. But if this is YOUR car to drive like it should be driven, save the money and the weight.

Reason I would like the stock nav is because of the voice activation, bluetooth, alrdy built in XM and Sirius support and stuff...I was thinkin about getting the Pioneer Zr-1 ( or one of those models) that have features such as bluetooth...and such...you have any input on which nav would do job same or better than stock?

Kenwood DNX 9140 does all of that and does it better. Voice activation, GPS (Garmin upgradable), multiple source inputs, iPod controls, clearer video, 12 band equalizer for front AND rear, amazing sound quality, etc.

You should be able to pick one up for under 1k by now. I paid 1.2k in may. Blows away the built-in unit in every conceivable way.

Seems like a nice unit... I think I can get it for unde 800 refurb or new under 1000... there is a newwer model of it out... Dnx9960 for about 1200 on ebay.

Anyway I see that you can integrate volume up/down as well as track up down steering wheel controls...but if I get 2011 evo w.o nav will I be able to hookup the TALK and END button to it to work for the kenwoods BT or at least hook up TALK button to perform the job of the Voice Recognition button that is included with the unit?

Thanks
Dnx9960

Both are good units, I just can't personally speak for the 9960, since I have the 9140. I integrated my audio controls, however, I'm not sure about the BT controls because I gave them away with my unit (I hated having an uneven steering wheel and wanted them gone).

The 9140 comes with a button about the size of a quarter. I routed mine from my glove box and stuck it upside down in my cubby hole under the hvac controls. So I can just tap it to turn voice activation on and off.

That sounds like a good idea... might do the same... if the PAC adaptor wont get the steering whheel BT to function...how is the voice response on it...and does it work pretty smooth with your contacts? I have iphone 4 and itd be nice if it played nice

Voice recognition works great. They make you use it if you're driving. Keep in mind the Bluetooth is parrot. So it has a reputation. Another good thing about the 9140 vs. 9960 is you can ebrake hack the 9140. The 9960 uses gps to tell If you're moving.

I have an iPhone 3G and it works most of the time. My wife has a 3GS and it works much better. So I'd think the 4g would work fine.

two questions

1. so without the hack I cant even change the folder or the song im playing off my USB while driving?

2. What do you mean 3GS works most of the time? It disconnects intermittently?

Thanks

3G requires a restart sometes. 3GS works fine.

You can change music while driving without the hack. It's using the screen while driving to make a call that requires a hack.

Just looked at few videos of the Kenwood and it seems pretty laggy in cases.. when the artwork browsing was showcased (I may not use this function very much) but still people on kenwood forums were not very please with this model (the older one as well as newer one) maybe I will opt for Avic Z120..still debating

The artwork isn't a big deal to me, it takes about 5 seconds for it to come out, not a big deal. But it's not like I can look at it while I'm driving anyways, and you can't browse by artwork, so I'm not sure why it would be a deal breaker. Browsing the unit is snappy enough for me.

The problem I had with the 110 at the time (the 120 is just a 110 with upgraded firmware), is it was very difficult to browse. Also the sound quality doesn't match the Kenwood. Finally, the GPS in the Kenwood is unmatched since it's Garmin and can be updated bi-yearly.

After I purchased my Kenwood, a friend of mine that runs the local car audio shop told me some frightening information about Pioneer. A customer of his had bought the 110, three weeks it died. Pioneer replaced it within 10 days........ with a refurbished unit. I don't know about you, but I'd be pretty upset if I just spent $1500 and got a refurb within that short of time. He fought with Pioneer and they wouldn't do anything for him. Also Pioneer dropped their Premiere line. All decks are average sound quality built now. Between those two issues, I personally won't buy Pioneer. To further drive this point home, my friend doesn't sell Kenwood eXcelon because you need to sell a certain volume to gain the eXcelon products. So he was very unhappy about the Pioneer issues since those were the top decks he sold.

Hope this helps, you probably wouldn't be as unlucky as his customer, but it's worth being aware of.
