R&T Magazine: Rallying Roots: STI vs. Evo - Comparison Test
Nice to see the EVO X chalk up another victory and this time off-road. Not a surprise really but I what I did find surprising was just how much faster the EVO X is over the STI in a straight line especially afer 60 mph.

I wish the media would stop comparing the two. All my NASIOC buds are having another crisis over this article. I had to listen to emails all week from all from a bud on how he was going to make 2011 handle good. It's painful and pathetic.
Heh, hope he has a large budget. Also, how is he going to test it? IMO, he's shooting in the dark trying to match or beat an evo in handling.

I love it. I work with a subie guy who has been talking about all of the great improvements on the 2011 sti and that he maybe buying one, upgrading from his bolt on 06 wrx. No major changes have been made to the x since 2008. Gotta love it, mitsu you have done us all right.

The chassis a same , the engine a same , essentially everything is a same as the older version was. Everything else is cheap and easy after market fix as i heard, which could be done on the 08 too.
The main problems seems to stayed a same. LOL
Basically its like a difference between the 08 and the 10 evo X's, they changed the tune on the engine. Made it faster out of the box , but what really changed on the engine?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD POST.
Im sick of a lot people talking about STI and EVO but have never driven any of them. I was always a fan for both, until I drove my friend's 2009 WRX sti. It's not even on the same level where the Evo X is, handlling wise, I dont think it should be called as a sports car.....EJ25? consider repairing cost before you get you hands on one, cuz it's almost granted to break down.

While the test is properly done, I don't think it was fair. The 2011 STi is just a single/base model. No SE or anything while the Evo was an SE model. What about GSRs against the new STi? Personally, I think using the GSR would be a more proper test with the 5 speed shifter and weight.

Subaru has been pretty happy making $$$$ by selling the same car since 04 over and over to Subie fanboys. They add a new front end, fender flare, or spoiler and walla; new STI and Subie owners gladly trade in their current STI for the new one despite it being essentially the same car. I'm not blaming Subaru because they know they can easily pull the wool over the eyes of their fans and buyers but if you really want fair the 2011 STI should be compared to a 2006 IX as they are at the same level of technology.
Why isn't it fair? Most people here would conclude the 5-Speed is slightly faster or nearly identical than the TC-SST equipped EVO X because it's a lighter car and the torque restraints programmed in to SST equipped cars. Also it's not Mitsubishi's fault that Subaru doesn't have an available dual clutch transmission with the STI.
