I can't believe he fit a GT47 in there. If thats what it actually is don't expect boost until 5500rpm's. Also, something else to keep in mind is the AEM EMS. You stated you want to DD it and I don't see that thing passing inspection/emissions.

Why such hate for the Evo X in this thread. The motors aren't junk like someone previously stated. I mean its not as easy to make big power on an Evo X like it is on an Evo 8 but doesn't mean the X is junk or the motor is junk. There are plenty of big par X's out there.

I would take the lexas. But jeez for 24,000 you would think the trunk and hood would match the body, Rice a rony .

You are right. Boost won't come in till like 5000 Rpm ( doesn't that mean better drivability staying out if boost city driving).
I could always downgrade the turbo. And I don't have to worry about passing inspection. Beauty of Miami.

Also to address the wheels. I think some rpf1 in gunmetal would suffice.

This is a tough choice, Personally, I don't like how this particular IS300 looks. The carbon fiber and lower lip on the bumper is lame. Mechanically though that 2JZ is as solid as ANY Evo motor and I have seen many built IS300's and driven several friends back to back to my Evo's of present and past.

If this particular IS300 wasn't so odd looking on the outside I would say IS300 but since it has some goofy asthetics and all I would have to pass. The parts list the guy used is all top shelf parts, and I am sure were all professionally installed.

Additionally with the demise of the Evo, owning an Evo will be more of a novelty over time as well. I believe 2011 is it for the Evo so get one while you can.

So +1 for the Evo, But I bet that IS300 pictured will spank many Evo's out there though in the straight, but in the twisties the Evo will own it.

My ten cents.

Jeff

I don't think boost will hit that late, I am guessing full spool around 4500 depending on the exhaust manifuold design. As for passing smog?? FORGET IT!!

This thing will never pass smog. That would be a deal breaker, especially where I am in CA. Not familiar with other state laws, but here in CA, I would never buy a car this modified mechanically unless it was track driven only because smogging it would be a PITA!!!

As for working on IS300's My mother has owned one since 2001 and yes THEY ARE A PITA to work on!!! I 2nd and 3rd that motion!!

Its true you won't be in boost often but the drivability factor comes from the rest of his setup (injectors, clutch, tune). My setup is a wild banshee under WOT but calm enough to drive in traffic when needed. I didn't see any mention of the injectors used so that should be on your question list. They would need to be substantial for that turbo, i'm assuming something around 1600cc's which you will hate DD with. That Tilton triple however is very user friendly, noisy at idle but way nicer than an single plate...

I wish, not even a stroked 2JZ will spool that thing at 4500. If thats a real GT47 it has a T6 flange and 5500rpm is being generous.

Its hard to say without really seeing it. Not sure if its a 3.0 or not, etc. 5500 rpm's wouldn't be to bad for a DD car anyway IMO with this beast being RWD get it in a corner at boost below 5500 and your in trouble.

Its a nice car, I like the IS300, just think its a bit much for a DD car compared to an Evo X. Buy a GSR, throw on the basic bolt ons and thats all you need. You can drive it for years and years. This particular IS300 may be solid, it may not be, thats the gamble you take when you buy used.

I do bet though it would be fun to drive........................in a straight line.

I know the is300 is a comfortable car. How do you like the X for the long haul, Seats, rattles, etc?

PS. I will post this on MY.IS and tell you guys what the verdict is.
I love my evo it is an amazing daily driver and is tons of fun to drive everyday. Long hauls are fine for me and i find the car very comfortable but im also only 20 years old so thats probably why and it rattles alot but its not a luxury vehicle so im not surprised. I bought my Evo for its performance and the way it looks. I went Evo over supra because of new jersey's winters if i lived in florida it would be a different story and i would probably own a supra instead of an evo and i would probably still want an evo. There is just no answer for me but to own both cars.

I feel that 600 hp isn't overkill ether. Its there if you need it you don't have to use it all the time. If anything you could easily build a evo to 600hp if thats whats keeping you so torn. If your just in love with both cars like i am with the supra and evo then you will have no choice then to own both ;]

And you should probably test drive both cars to see which one you could live with for a daily driver.

Yeah. I will be test driving both within a week. I'll give an update. The X is seeming like the more reasonable choice as of now.
