2010 Evo X SE for Girlfriend?
2010 Evo X SE for Girlfriend?
Ok, so I have been reading all these threads on what makes an evox a good dd and all. I am more than confident that I would love the car for dd, but I will stick to my 9 for a bit longer.
My question is, my g/f(soon to be fiance). She is coming from a 2007 Eclipse Spyder GS. Its the 2.4 convertible. Now, we test drove the SE yeterday, for only about 5 min. She says she loves the car, and doesnt need to drive it anymore. We have already done all the money talk and got it down to the price she is happy with. So all she needs to do is give the go ahead.
I was a bit surprised on the rougher suspension in the SE. My 9 rides better on 18x9.5 wheels with BC ram series coilovers lol. I am just worried about her regretting getting it 3 months down the road, and me felling guilty as I have caught her on to the evos.
So what do you guys think? The eclipse, being convertible. Its not the quietest vehicle on the road. Being convertible, it seemed very sloppy in day to day traffic. Like you could feel the car flexing cause of no roof?? lol
The biggest issue I see here maybe complaining about is the gas mileage. I just dont know if she has enough love for the car in her to put up with it.
Any of your g/f's, wives driving the se or mr?
Thanks

my wife has an SE and absolutely loves it. it's a evo so it is a bit stiff and gas millage is crap, but she wouldn't give it up for anything. She loves the heated seats and the awd is great for all the weather conditions, and most of all she loves the power. For us it was a no-brainer. She was so jealous of mine.
The only complaints I've gotten from here is how expensive the maintenance is. Stuff like tires, brake pads, and stuff are going to run you a little bit more than a normal car, but you and I already owning evos know how that goes. I just have to tell her to relax and I take care of all that stuff.
The ralliart might be a option if gas millage is a really big deal. It also rides a lot softer than the evo.

Thanks for the suggestions. I try to get her to get a Ralliart, but she tells me she doesnt wanna feel like she cheaped out and couldnt get the "real deal" lol.
She knows about the maintenance. I told her a front brake job will run her like 120 for front pads, with me doing it. Whereas the pads we just put on her eclipse were 55. I have told her about having to run premium, which she doesnt mind. I am more worried about it then her. She loves my evo 9, and would love to have one of those, but she cant/wont drive a 5 speed everyday lol.

Well, this brings me a little more at ease if she decides to go for it. There is no doubt, I would love for her to get it. If she does, im gonna get her to take it auto-xing when I go with my 9 this year. I think she would def have a blast lol. Hitting cones and all!
I told her I will do my best not to try and mod it, so it will stay under warranty for the 60k/5yrs. Although I would love to throw some swift springs, single side exhaust, mbc and a tune on it.

My $0.02 (learned the hard way) is to make sure it is her decision and not yours, either way. If it's her decision and she loves it or hates it, then it's way better than her hating it and having it be your decision...

We will be getting married in the next few years, an agreement we have made, is we pay for our own cars, as long as they are within reason of our budget.
Cool guys, I feel better knowing there is more ladies out there driving these beasts.
She never minded riding in my 1g, let alone my evos. I really hope she likes and keeps it for years to come! She has had a 01 eclipse, 4cyl. and the 07 eclipse spyder 4cyl. She should def have a blast with the evo x se.
She is still checking out Insurance, but I dont see it being a problem. Im a year younger, and when I quoted for a 2010 gsr, it was only jumping up $20 a month for me, so she shouldnt have much of a jump in price.

I really wish there was a Ralliart local. I would love for her to drive one. Although, with a Ralliart, she would want the recaro seat package, navigation, so the price would be right up there with the se.
But I see so many Recaro's in the FS section I don't think it's that big of a deal. As soon as my budget allows I will probably look to pick up a set
and I would keep pushing for the Ralliart. It's as much Evo as any person "needs" for just street driving. I work at a Mitsu dealership so I'm constantly taunted by not buying an Evo, but every test drive I don't find stock Evo's very fast at all - not worth stretching out every penny for the car if you can't mod it imo. and the RA suspension just feels like a softer version of the Evo's. Only at 75mph+ around corners do I see the difference, and you shouldn't be doing that on the street

People seem to give up on the RA platform too easily, and in a year or two when my car is paid off, I will probably keep it and keep pushing it forward, rather than trade it in for an Evo like so many others. I see lots of crazy WRX builds that smash STi's. now that Mitsu has a "WRX", why aren't people encouraged to do the same?
