And my dealer told me it was ok to have the oil changed every 5000 miles if I was using Amsoil or Redline (full syntetic, not blend). IIRC the manual states every 3500 miles (not Km) in "harsh" conditions.Originally Posted by 416_EVO
umm.... good, but what's the definition of "too often". Owner manual says every 4800km to have oil changed.
Go to BITOG forum (or similar) if you want to learn more. There is a wealth of knowledge and data out there.
However, considering warranties, that game has to be played (document, document, document)-
Not one of your choices but I'm using mobil1 0w-40. I figure since it's hot in TX that it will shear down to a 30. I never get on the car when the engine is cold so the 0w part doesn't bother me. I've noticed no real difference though. Reason I did it was because I saw UOAs that showed it was safe to run in the evo x.

techmaster, sounds like a reasonable choice for hot TX weather. as for it being a "0" at the low end, unless it is 90-100 degrees when you start the car up, even a 0W40 is TOO thick on startup (but it's better than a "5" or "10"). Generally, you want to stay within a difference of "30" between the low end and high end, because of the shearing you mentioned - however shearing should not be an issue if you change your oil regularly. You're probably fine with a 0W30 as well.

im in NY and i just did an oil change and the dealer told me 5w30 so thats what i went with... everythings fine but if you don't mind me asking how do i reset the service meter on the dash?? thanks

To reset your service meter:
keep ignition switch in off position, hold button for 2 secs and the wrench icon should flash. When that flashes, press button again and the screen should show - - - then to "clear" and be reset. If you press info button and scroll thru, it will have auto updated miles/months to next service.
The manual is a frickn novel... but for more details are in manual 3-167.
Hope that helps.

I heard this good stuff too but never used. Those were used mainly by European car owners. I might get some 5W30 for next round.
