I wonder if the owner had the cat tuned after installing the AMS intake and if not how long it was driven like that. Not a major issued but I will cause the car to run richer if not tuned.

^^It will actually run the car leaner. Which from the stock tune isn't a bad thing because it will lean the car out a bit over the factory rich tune.

If that is / was his only power mod, I wouldn't be too worried about if it was tuned or not. You're probably better off if he wasn't tuned and just ran the stock tune with the intake. Even less to worry about.

Too bad his gauges weren't hooked up (assuming AFR & boost). It would have been good to see what they were during your test drive.

Walk away and go buy a car at a legitimate dealer. You have zero recourse if something goes wrong with the transaction or the car. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

So what's the update? At that price I wouldn't be as concerned about the price as I would about the transaction. Do you have any friends at a local dealership that can do the transaction for a fee?

owning an evo takes cash, the fact that you are getting a good price is not a good enough reason to disreguard all the other things you should do when you don't buy from a dealer...have the car checked out, do the compression test, dont just take the sellers word....Buyer beware....there's a reason for that phrase.....your about to spend a lot of cash and no insurance...IMHO...be cautious and carful...dont be car fool.....

lol

The price does seem really low but like others have stated, go take it into a Evo/tuner shop and get it checked out before the purchase.

Hate to break it to you but a car can run just fine and have low compression on a cylinder. I hurt a piston in my viper and it still ran great with no way to tell other than small puffs of smoke during serious racing. The last time I was shopping dealerships for Cobra's I found a great deal. Car ran great. Did a compression test and two cylinder where way down. So no you cant always tell from a test drive. It looks like the guy half assed a lot of things on that car. So I have my doubts about its tune, oil changes, ect. Hell it looks like he did not even bother to clean it before you came to look at it. Seems he does not take maintenance on his car very seriously. A compression test is very easy to do yourself and will tell you if the car is worth it or not. Good luck.

fwiw, you could buy that car and a 2nd shortblock for about the avg going rate of a 2008 with 20k miles on it. If the engine's shot, get a new one and you're still in the black
