Blue painters tape help!!
Hey guys, I am taking my X for a 1100 miles road trip and was wondering which would provide a better protection against rock chips, Blue painters tape or couple coats of Wax. I've seen a lot of people use the tape at autox events but rarely on road trips. I've heard the wax will do a good job against rock chips as well. Once again, any help is very much appreciated
Wax only really provides protection from sun and contaminants that float in the air known as "fall out". It keeps a layer between the paint surface and the elements. If you are looking for rock chip protection, then go blue tape crazy!

Tape, like this:

Notice the layout of the tape and the direction... this is very important for holding up to the elements + wind.

Now this is 500 miles in:

And this is 2200 miles in:

The logic behind it is to put the strips of paint parallel with the wind passing over. The strips on the hood should go from front to rear, not from headlight to headlight. The order of placing should be from the sides of the hood towards the center, with the last piece being in the very center.
Oh btw, it held up well even after seeing rain on 3 separate occasions, from LA to Vegas to Denver to Chicago.
